Corinthian Cadillac is the first project between between platinum-selling producer J.Kelr (of Blended Babies) and the elusive master beatsmith Kenny Keys. 

J.Kelr, who has produced for Chance the Rapper, Kid Cudi, Kendrick Lamar and Ro James melds his soul production with Kenny Keys’ knack for finding the rhythm and pulse of any project. 

Assembling an array of artists, including veterans Jon B and Twista (on Politics), along with artists making major waves  like Melo-Makes-Music, Jacquie Lee, Armani White and others -  they cover the landscape of Rap, R&B and Soul for a classy re-introduction to big booty music. The first single So It Goes featuring Swsh, Rich Jones, and Appleby is a whole vibe sure to get the heads nodding. 

After first coming together in 2011 to produce the title track on 
Asher Roth’s Pabst & Jazz project, they bring their musical chemistry to fruition with Corinthian Cadillac. The end result invites the listener to feel the vibes and the suede interior, as they take a ride in a classic Caddy through the soul of the city.

"I created this piece for my father. He passed away Feb 2011. 
I think he would have been happy to see how much progress I made in creating songs since then. 
This piece was me having a jam session with myself using NI Maschine.
Drum programming, played the bass live on the pads, played the keys..
In honor of the 10-year anniversary of my first solo album, "The Golden Hour (sdtrk)", I decided to do a jazz-influenced rework of the song "Miss U" off the album.  This one is also dedicated to anyone who has lost a parent(s)

“Bernie Says” is the debut album from South London producer Jake Milliner. 

Raised in a musical household and embroiled in golden era richness from a young age, Jake’s spaced out, soul drenched sound has been building him a reputation as “one to watch” amongst core groups of boom bap fans over the past few years (including T-3 from the legendary Slum Village). He’s also received support from the likes of Boiler Room, Clash Magazine and Afropunk. 

Jake has produced tracks for artists like Barney Artist, Hawk House, Bubblerap, Lord Apex, Zilo, Musiq Soulchild and T-3. With “Bernie Says” Jake himself steps into the spotlight for the first time. On 13 tracks Jake Milliner makes the transition from beatmaker/producer to fully fledged artist. His boom-bap roots are still intact on “Bernie Says” but the sound spectrum relies also on jazz and boogie with lots of heavy keys – courtesy of Jake himself and Alfa Mist who is guesting on the first single “Reminisce” alongside trumpeter Marcus Tenney. Some other key players from the London jazz scene are making cameos too on the album but have to stay uncredited for contractual reasons. On the vocal-side Jake is joined by former Hawkhouse singer/rapper Bubblerap and long-time friend 25. The artwork is based on works by London artist Stuart Ruel. 

The album enjoys radio-support from some key players on BBC 6 including Marry Anne Hobbs, Tom Ravencroft and Don Letts and has gained various plays on Worldwide FM and NTS.

Hailing from Atlanta, GA, Darryl Reeves is a saxophonist that effortlessly merges the lines between funk, soul & hip-hop, expressed from a platform rooted in jazz. Growing up in a musical family, Reeves attended the Northwestern Performing & Visual Arts Center in Miami. Moved by hip-hop samples originating from jazz, Reeves was led to being influenced by greats such as Charlie Parker and John Coltrane. Reeves studied music at Jackson State University. He subsequently completed his Masters of Music at the University of New Orleans, where he studied with Terence Blanchard and performed on the scene with Delfeayo Marsalis. In 2004, Reeves released the funky and playful Diary of a Bandstand, to ample acclaim. It featured Robert Glasper, Russell Gunn & Quamon Fowler and cemented Reeves' reputation for presenting a new outlook on the sound, style and production of jazz music. Reeves has kept a steady hand in not being limited to any specific genre. Some know him just as well for his production in hip-hop. Reeves caught Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson's attention with his ingenious jazz-funk remixes of Jay-Z's Black Album, which was spun upon many of the drummer's dj sets. Recently in Atlanta, he has been the music director of many highly acclaimed live sets with Aishah Rashied Hyman's Spreadlove and DJ Kemit. He has performed and recorded with notable artists including Roy Ayers, The O'Jays, Frank McComb, Angie Stone, Kirk Whalum, Jill Scott, Phonte, Toku, Janelle Monae,  Young Jeezy, B.O.B. and T-Pain.

On their third full-length release, Potatohead People widen the frame of their progressive musical vision and deliver a far-reaching yet approachable set of moods and grooves.

Mellow Fantasy continues to showcase the trademark instrumental prowess of the duo and their ease with the loose but hard-hitting drum style brought to the fore by Jay Dee’s influential productions, but goes well beyond basic boom bap bread and butter, with singer-centered R&B and uptempo bumps sharing the stage. 

Beginning in 2008 as a Vancouver-based hip-hop production team, Potatohead People (Nick Wisdom and AstroLogical) have collaborated with a fantasy league of MCs, including Frank Nitt of Frank’n’Dank (the 2013 breakout jam “Back To My Shit”), Illa J (producing an entire album for J. Dilla’s younger brother) and the late Phife Dawg (the beloved A Tribe Called Quest co-founder’s last recorded verse was over one of their beats).  

Setting them apart from other Dilla-influenced beatmakers is the way they push the scope of the style, working the corners with their own unique touch. At its most basic, “the goal has always been making really dope loops,” they explain. By using slices of their own rough instrumental ideas, finding “a chord progression or texture that you can hear again and again and never question it,” they’ve taken this fundamental concept and elevated it to new levels of melodic, harmonically complex music.

A jazz-like responsiveness to the input of collaborators is a key component of how the team works. “We like to get the artist involved when the beat is an early idea, and build the beat around the vocals, getting inspired by what they do.” 

On Mellow Fantasy, they had some impressive inspiration. Pos from De La Soul immediately connected with “Baby Got Work,” a sophisticated slap that went through several iterations before settling into its ultimate form. Appropriately, the song’s diligent construction echoes the ethic of the grind in the clear-eyed, precisely dovetailed lyrics fans have come to expect from the Daisy Age don. “Baby Got Work” is the album’s lead single, hitting on 9/25/20.

Befitting Potatohead People’s origins as a hip-hop group, cameos from Illa J and Slum Village’s T3 on the summertime teaser “What It Feels Like” and Vancouver veteran Moka Only (the sassy, vanity take-down “Ungodly”) add to the unimpeachable rap bonafides. 

The hometown connections continue with Lotusland local Kapok slinging verses on a couple tracks and rising stars Kendra Dias and Clear Mortifee, who stake serious claims as names to watch with standout vocal turns on the low-slung neo-soul “Break Even” and the upcoming second single “Hidden Levels,” a high-flying house/future boogie hybrid. Following up their successful 2019 collabo “Single Life,” Bunnie makes her return to action with the group on “Kettle Boiling.” Ranging further, Reggie B, who broke on the scene with his lead on Onra’s “High Hopes,” shines on the optimistic bounce of “Bring The World A Little Closer.”

Threaded throughout are interlude instrumentals that comfortably manage the neat trick of being musically intriguing while retaining an accessible, gut-level thump. Look no further than the statement-making, Yussef Kamaal-like funk fusion album opener “1st Light” and their nod to overlooked Vancity synth pioneer Dale Jacobs (“Ode To Mr. Jacobs”) for clues to where Nick and Astro’s hearts are at.

Mellow Fantasy, released 10/30/20 on Bastard Jazz and available on vinyl and all digital platforms, is Potatohead People’s most evolved collection yet, rooted in earthy low end but elevated, expansive and reaching new musical heights.
