Murge's Magic Hour - 10.07.21

This mix was made on the Imbolc. That's the day when the pagan's of old celebrated the mid point between winter solstice and spring equinox. They knew the importance of throwing a good party, especially in the middle of winter when people are losing it from lack of vitamin-D and having to wear wool, fur, and animal skins all the time. Christians appropriated Imbolc then it morphed into what many people know as ground hog day. What does any of that have to do with discos burning down, Blondie, or dance music? Listen and find out. This hour long set was mixed live, on a pair of very old record players.

Fire In The Disco

This was a set I created for Tropical's 16th anniversary campout in 2014 held at a yoga retreat center in California. Most of the weekend's music was house music, but there was a block of ambient-into-downtempo on Saturday morning. Starts off ambient and rises into danceable trip hop & downtempo.

The recording of my set had technical issues, so this is a recreation in my studio. Mastered by @EasternSun

True to my style, I hope you'll find this mix a journey through time and sound that defies labels and yet evokes positive vibes, nostalgic memories, and perhaps even some deeper thoughts on life.   

It's a blend of some of my favorite songs remixed, a few new gems I'm particularly fond of, and some original remixes I made myself.  

This mix was recorded live at my dear friend Eli's final majestic manor pool party.  (Love you Eli... thanks for the opportunity and your visionary leadership in general.)  The title was inspired by my original mashup I call "I got 5 on a hippie dance."
