Tête de pont d’un jazz français débridé, en quête d’un groove moderne aux ramifications riches, le Florian Pellissier Quintet agite depuis ses débuts en 2002 une musique avec des envies d’ailleurs évidentes ; évoquées sur les précédentes sorties mais aujourd’hui clairement mis en avant sur ce quatrième album, Bijou Voyou Caillou.

Ses  précédent album « biches bleues »  et le « cap de Bonne esperance » a eu 4 étoiles dans jazzmag, choc Jazznews, playlist TSF et Jazz radio, « disque de la semaine » dans jazz à fip, playlist sur Radio Nova et selection dans leur coffret de fin d’année.

Ce nouvel album devrait asseoir un peu plus le nom de Pellissier sur la scène jazz française mais aussi international. Ce musicien hyperactif est toute l’année sur scène et notamment derrière de nombreux projets, que ce soit le live band de GUTS, celui d’Anthony Joseph, Cotonete, Akalé wubé,  Setanta, Camarao Orchestra, Luzmila Carpio… mais c’est avec son quintet qu’il s’epanouit pleinement.

Originally starting out in the late 90s, Paris-based 8 piece, Cotonete originally gained fame for renditions of tracks from their contemporaries, the likes of: Deodato, Lalo Schiffrin and Banda Black Rio. Replicating the heavy grooves, sweaty jazz-funk with a nod to the Brazilian warmth and beach breeze. Before bowing out of the game thinking the fun was over….

Fast forward to more recent times, having had their flame reignited by Melik Bencheikh, head honcho of Paris vinyl emporium, Heartbeat Vinyl. He encouraged the band to get back together and over the last two years the band released four EPs of original material - quickly becoming collectors items, and now gearing up for 2019 they are finally ready to present a full body of work, their album debut ‘Super Vilains’.

So along with Melik assuming the role of executive producer they had one goal in mind, to capture the passion and unity Cotonete had always accomplished in their live performances. Setting-up in One Two Pass It Studios Paris, they began to work. Each musician speaking confidently through their own instrument, also unifying at the right moments showcasing the shear force they poses as a unit. The material had been rehearsed meticulously, almost to the point of exhaustion before the record was eventually laid to tape.

This nine track offering confidently straddles everything the band are known for; jazz fusion, balearic disco and integral soul-funk grooves. Keeping those early influences close, but now with more mature characteristics from the likes of: Herbie Hancock, Patrice Rushen and other 70’s Blue Note O.Gs.

After making a great impression with their previous and sold out release (the deep house – UK jazz funk remix of Resolution 88’s "Taking Off), they return with a monster nu disco boogie nugget, remixing “Boys and Girls” from the famous french latin funk sensation, Setenta ! With a strong reputation since their first hit “Funky Tumbao”, several LP's including a collaboration (on record and on stage) with Nuyorican legend Joe Bataan and even a remix by DJ Center and DJ Spinna, the Parisalseros of Setenta entrust their latest hit to the Mochi Men funky rascals.

The result is a heavy boogie bounce of a real party jam, that hits hard on the dancefloor !
