"Machina Kultura" or "Culture Machine" is a 4-song EP released during a time of global crisis; a pandemic. A time of chaos and great disturbance, but also a moment for reflection, personal development, re-birth and change. This album reflects a movement through various world cultures, rhythms, and vibrations that evolve and grow, moody and whimsical, like these times. The notion was to fuse modern electronic elements with ancient, tribal, and sacred music that unite to form a new sense of established being and identity, uniquely formed in groove and feel. Drifting - a movement with no certain direction… As a drifter you may move with ease and a calm mind, or you may find yourself on a mystical journey into the unknown, you’re never quite sure... These feelings of uncertainty have inspired our dear friend Kyle, aka @captures, when he began working on this EP three years ago. At that time his journeys had drawn him to Berlin where he found himself searching for a community to resonate with. With a bit of drifters fortune, we found each other here and there as the events and parties around Voodoohop and UCR brought him a sense of home: „Everyone seemed like wild characters in a play on some type of exotic underground that created a narrative free from boundaries. I loved the psychedelic atmosphere those days combined with electronic and world music sounds. Those experiences contributed a lot to this album and to who I am today.“

We’re pleased that our communities have provided inspiration that has led us to work with Captures on releasing this beautiful soundtrack. A soundtrack for all the drifters out there.

May this EP be seen as a dedication to not only the weightless feeling of floating but also to carry confidence and optimism on our paths to explore the great unknown. As Confucius said, „The journey is the destination“.

This track was made with my dear friend Mike Rauss in a small hobbit studio in the Berlin shire. We love to get funky and tried our best to get minimal. Mike played the oud, guitar, and vocals and Captures handled the beats and soundscapes.

The lyrics are in Hebrew and are about getting together after not seeing each other for a long while and playing music and creating together.

Ecuadorian singer Huaira has created a buzz and a tuned in fanbase across Latin America through just a small number of releases and unforgettable features with the likes of Nicola Cruz's ("Prender Del Alma"), Los Espiritus, Rodrigo Gallardo, Fernando Milagros and more. Now, she is coming together with the talented Berlin based producer Captures for a series of special singles on Wonderwheel. The first, "Sonámbula", a “realismo mágico” song, sonically creates a mystical vibe through it's dark bassline, unearthly synths & sound effects that swirl in the darkness of the track, while Huaira's vocals range from interspersed words to near-chantlike verses and lilting phrases. Lyrically, the track talks about the space of the waking dream. It speaks of our choice to be present in this illusion or dormant while we walk through each passing day...the storytelling of the dream, the eternal lover within ourselves and the many mirrors we encounter in our relationship to others.

Huaira & Captures - Sonámbula

“Los Danzantes” is the second Wonderwheel released single from singer/producer Huaira and musician Captures. The track was written in Berlin, and inspired by the sounds of the city’s underground dance music scene with a glitchy 4-on-the-floor drumbeat accompanied by deep, electronic sounds and hypnotic, tribal percussion and vocals. Sung in Spanish, the song is lyrically inspired by the ceremony of the Sun Dance, with an urgent message of our existence and the importance of connecting with the body, earth, and the cycle of life.

Making of: This track was produced and conceptualized during a self-booked tour in 2019 where I filled my backpack with 2 pairs of clothes and all the electronic and live instruments that would fit inside and set-off on a 3 month journey going town to town through Guatemala and Mexico booking my own gigs along the way through word of mouth and just showing up and being present. I received a tip to head to Mazunte during my tour which unveiled a special and deep connection with the musicians and culture that exist there. I began to play more and more shows with the locals and visited the coast, "punta cometa", or point of the comets. There, with some beautiful friends I met, recorded the sounds of the ocean joining together and exploding off of the cliff-side, the air, and objects like sticks and stones I found from the region. On one special moment I was with my friend Claudia. We were playing in the sand and we stumbled upon a burial site of a giant turtle. There we said a small prayer and played a simple beat with some sticks on the turtle shell. The recording of that turtle shell is the foundation groove that is buried in the track, as the beautiful turtle was buried in the sand, joining again with nature and eventually the ebbing tides. The final touches made the entire track come to life when I joined with some incredible humans and artists that I met while exploring the coast. I set up my makeshift studio in a small concrete bungalow just outside of the city and with the deep, mysterious, and divine voice of Blythe Gruda and her magical lyric books streaming intrinsic consciousness, and the smooth sensual vibes of the flute and alto sax from Aric Gutnick, the track was born..and the journey continues...

This set is one of several live sets in a series that will slowly and lovingly, like our musical vibration, open up to the world, bit by bit, piece by piece.

As musical and deep-soul brethren, Captures and Sādana have been harnessing their crafts for years, letting the winds blow their spirits from land to land, shining bright, even in the darkest of places. Their paths crossed in Berlin, the crux of electronic music and led them to collaborate and co-create on a crucial body of work, just when the World needed it most. This series, coming to be known as K I N S H I P, explores the depths of our hearts and the strength and courage in our patience, in friendship, in service; together. It is primarily improvised, with an undercurrent of produced work performed and launched live by Captures then layered and performed over by Sādana. 

So let the vibe simmer and crisp on both sides. Let the full flavor marinate and settle in, allowing it to reach it's full potential. Welcome the imperfections and let the authenticity and purity of the performance shine through. And just remember, you are love.

This track came alive through a moment of exploring west-african desert blues guitar combined with producing an abstract, pulsing world beat while pondering life in the garden of my home in Berlin. Months later, while traveling through the sacred valley of Peru on a journey with cactus medicine, my brother Dawid passed me samples of a recording of the Mwami tribe (meaning King Shepherd) and royal drums from Rwanda whose cultural music and identity has disappeared since the republic was formed in 1961. These samples I have mixed with my production and guitar playing to give it an otherworldly feel. I believe in the idea of carrying cultural heritage through the medium of sound and production thus giving new life to ancient tradition and merging the old with a new artistic vision.

This track emerged from working on ambient music beds with my dear friend Tom Föerder in Berlin. He's a master of intricate and strange subtle, pulsing grooves. On top of that I layered my signature sounds of world-beat mixing cumbia, house, and psychedelic percussive elements. As the title track of the album, "Machina Kultura" or Culture Machine, I wanted to invite this concept of machines blending with culture and nature to sort of sum of my feeling of where we are as a species.

This track incorporates the Moroccan Gimbri, a 3-stringed hollow-bodied instrument from the Gnawa tribe that resonates and develops into trance-like patterns when played. Matching the gimbri patterns are arpeggiated synth lines that run throughout the piece, accompanied by a 3/4 deep house vibe.
