The best ambient, downtempo, and trip-hoppy tracks from Ópalo all in one concept he gave the name of Space Is Only Noize, a variation of an album he liked a lot during his college days.

Next To Someone is the first EP released on Caracteres in 2025. The extended play consist in four tracks composed by the label most known and frequent artist on our roaster 'Ópalo'. His compositions for this release are nocturne and related to love, friendship, night-outs and particular taste for piano and keyboard likes in the jazz academic scene. Always keeping it underground and lefty, Ópalo finds his way by putting out tracks that always refresh the listening of the audience.

Nies is the creative alias of Denise Pakes. Originally from the Netherlands with Moluccan roots, Denise can be found juggling between Amsterdam, Paris and Berlin, engaged continuously in musical exploration, audio-visual collaborations with like-minded artists, and organizing events with cultural activation in mind. 

After studying ‘Image & Sound’ at the Art Academy & Conservatory of The Hague, Denise became increasingly interested in the ever-expanding audio-visual universe and its peculiarities. Persistently curious and relentlessly passionate in video, photography, and music, she found the natural outlets for her artistic expression, which led her to create her label and agency, explore the art of DJing, and produce both music and visuals. She recently graduated from a master’s study at INA GRM in Paris; Création Musicale & Arts Sonores. 

Since falling in love with synthesizers a few years ago, music creation is now one of her main creative outputs and an infinite source of inspiration and joy. Warm soundscapes, strange textures, subtle atmospheres, and broad bass lines — her musical intentions either as a sound artist or as a composer are clear: to excite the listeners, flowing organically, stretching time and bending space in pure harmony.

Ópalo compiles the best tunes of 2023 diggin's, regarding dub, trip-hop and downtempo acts like jazzanova among other rare gems that float in the ambient realms of music.

'This set was recorded during an art exhibition which I perform in a coffee shop from a friend here in Quito, Ecuador. The exhibition was about some paintings I made inspired by abstract art. This taste for this kind of art related to the music I played comes from the influences of artists like Robert del Naja which made urban music combined with they own vision of visual art. The mood was introspective yet full of energy which came from the close friend’s who came to see the exhibition and listen to the dj set.'
