Are You The Original You?

Hope for Tomorrow

Looking at the shadows of today Will there be any sunlight in our tomorrow Thinking about the world we live in The evil, the tragedy, the pain Brings my heart so much sorrow. How can it be that we are falling back into the shadows of yesterday instead of moving forward to a brighter today Why are we Falling back into the times of segregation and cruelty How dare you judge me When did you become God or the ruler over me. Living imperfectly in a imperfect world where the objective is to be selective of who gains societal success seeking to mold you Grab a hold on you.... Breaking the bonds of love and causing separation. But when did love become an unbalanced equation I'm not claiming perfection And ask that you put your judgement aside as I change direction. I'm working on me! What about you? An ignorant mind is a handicap When instead you and I should Empower ourselves instead of disarming ourselves Seek knowledge from the cradle to the grave. If we spent more time with our children and educated them, perhaps they wouldn't misbehave As a people we can do so much better But instead the focus is on money, sex, drugs, behind bars write a letter materialistic fantasies and false hopes The direction of our future unbearably I can't cope! The past struggles paved the way for the future. Will we now go back to being enslaved? Perhaps we were never free. But for the faithful they know the true prize. Behind the smiles they see the lies. Be true to you. Speak and teach love not hate. A hateful mind can send you to an early grave. Perhaps not physically but mentally...spiritually. I Speak peace. It's time to rid the world of evil pave the way for a better tomorrow I'm ready. What about you? Change us coming.

Break Away
CUTTING AWAY THE UMBILICAL CORD OF THOSE

THAT HAVE ATTACHED THEMSELVES TO ME

AS I GIVE BIRTH OF A NEW LIGHT FOUND WITHIN ME

AS I PROGRESS TOWARDS MY SUCCESS

AS I WALK TOWARDS AND ACHIEVE MY GOALS.

 

THE CLAWS ARE IN MY BACK

AS THEY TRY TO ATTACK

BUT I AM NUMB, MY FOCUS IS ON THE FUTURE NOT THE PAST

FROM THE BEGINNING

I KNEW THOSE NEGATIVE RELATIONSHIPS AND FRIENDSHIPS WOULD NOT LAST

 

THIS HEART IS NOT BROKEN NOR TORN

I WILL NOT BE LABELED AS ANOTHER ANGRY BLACK WOMAN

THIS HEART NOT SCORN

 

BUT INSTEAD I MOVE FORWARD IN MY GLORY

LEAVING A POSITIVE MARK ON THE WORLD

LEAVING THE CHILDREN OF THE FUTURE, MY STORY.

Break Away

This poem was inspired by a news report of a young girl being gang raped. The three teenagers responsible video recorded the act, and then proceeded to upload it to Facebook. The teens were recently charged as adults.
