Dani Shukri is a drummer and beat programmer. Born in Damascus 1988, he started drumming at the age of 13 taking after his father, and played in various local metal bands. He dtudied at Syria’s higher institute for music while playing in various jazz and indie projects. He started his current band Tanjaret Daghet in 2010. They moved together to Beirut in late 2011, where they have since kept playing and recording together while collaborating with numerous local and international artists.

The "Monologue" remixes have fluttered in: scattered doses of passion, groove, pain and movement. Five remixers re-interpret the electronic folk songs of composer @yousef-kekhia. The task was a challenge, for Kekhia’s songs are deeply personal, kindled by his post-Syrian civil war experiences. @niklas-paschburg, @underher, @hellopsychaleppo, @ghostofchristmas and Kekhia himself sustain Monologue’s original organic feel, while sprinkling on percussive elements, lush synths, gravelling basses or decisive plays on tempo.

"Monologue" is Yousef Kekhia’s debut album, a lyrical exploration spun across the pavements of Turkey, Syria and Berlin. He sings of the space between displacement, remembrance, hardship and healing. In the hands of our remixers, these Arabic lyrics find new windows to look out from, at times ambient, at times bass-heavy, at times upbeat. The Monologue reworks turn one man’s tale into dialogue, adding new perspectives to his story in a way only music can.

In a follow up to Ana, a folk-pop song taken from the protest tune Arrabi al Arabe by Mariem Hassan, I'm releasing Hindi Majnoon, a pop-nostalgia song about being bullied for being half-Indian while growing up in Kuwait and how it became my superpower!

Sung in Arablish (Arabic and English) with hints of Hindi, I introduce a new sound I call Pop Nostalgia which reshapes the past in a contemporary way. Hindi Majnoon features chunky rhythms and playful retro synths driven by textured vocals. Through tactful wordplay, I reclaim my power by taking ownership of all the tropes that I and my family have been mocked for. Through the release of Hindi Majnoon, I continue to shape a crossover sound of my own.
