The Ceasefire: by Adam Dixon

After the battle, there followed a ceasefire in which the soldiers returned to their loved ones. 
Throughout their desperate struggle to stay alive, one thought had concussed them from their own personal hell. 
Day dreams of the ones they loved rifled around their heart and souls, yielding a brief glimpse of joy in their darkest hours.
Men were never meant to swim with the souls of the dead, they had no business here!
Many longed to escape this madness, whilst many others succumbed to it's barrage.
All they could do was march forward, bravely and resolutely, with steel in their hearts; they'd fought.
When the ceasefire was broadcast the nations rejoiced the coming of senses, this day they had longed for, they made haste to their loved ones. 
Love replaced fear, smiles returned to beaten faces, eyes alight with passion searched for life.
Longing to share love again they fell into each other and prayed for their salvation.
