Robot Koch and director Lukas Feigelfeld have teamed up to create a special collaboration project. After Lukas directed the video "Autodreams" ("The Other Side", Project: Mooncircle) in 2011, they wanted to go a step further. The idea behind the release "Unpaved" was to create a short film in which the music and the images are equally important.

Imagine the old mystic character "Pan", which represents nature, animalism and freedom, in a contemporary and realistic setting; becoming a modern vagabond, a drifter, living in the woods and roaming the lands, always accompanied by his friend, the dog. As his path leads him into the city of modern society, he is quickly confronted with its harsh reality -- The conflict between living in an urban space and wanting to be at piece in a remote place in nature. Can we consider ourselves animals or have we already evolved into something too distanced from its natural enviroment and essence?

"When I write music it's always very visual. I have images in my mind that put me in certain moods while I produce -- oftentimes I make music to a film that hasn't been shot yet. This has been something I wanted to do for a long time: compose music for a film." -- Koch

We wanted to theme the concept of this mini compilation around the 'kitchen', as it is very often regarded as the 'soul' of the house, where a large portion of daily activities actually take place. Whether it's preparing food, grabbing a quick snack from the fridge, or simply having a coffee with a mate over an extended countertop, its function does seep quite deeply into how we live. So for this holiday season (if you are having one), we thought it's rather appropriate to curate and share with you a mini compilation of music from our artists and affiliates - A compilation that would hopefully provide and enhance the environment for those who might be preparing that festive feed for loved ones and friends. 

After all, music is that one true universal language that injects positivity and good energy.

シガー・ロスやヨハン・ヨハンソンの美しい旋律と静寂が同期する来日ツアーも大盛況に終わったSontag Shogun のメンバーで
あるJeremy Youngとアンビエント・ポストクラシカルの様々なプロジェクトに参加し、
Preservation、Experimedia、Under The Spireなどからの多数のリリースで知られるチェリスト・マルチ・インストゥルメンタリストのAaron Martinの初のコラボレーションアルバムが完成。
マックス・リヒター, キース・ケネフといったポストクラシカルや、ブライアン・イーノ、テイラー・デュプリー、フェデリコ・デュランド、ハロルド・バッドといったアンビエントの狭間に系譜に位置するこのアルバムは荘厳なチェロの響きとテープループのピアノの中で水平線に沈み込む夕日のような美しさをともなった傑作となった。
Jeremy YoungとAaron Martinの作り出す淡いレイヤーに重なる幾つもの微かな楽器の音は銀河にいくつも表れる彗星のように、儚い響きを持って立ち行きます。
古いテープが作る微かなモジュレーションがどこか懐かしい感触を引き出す、アンビエント・ポストクラシカルの傑作がここに誕生しました。


Aaron MartinA Pulse Passes is the first collaborative recording between Martin and Young. This project was dreamt up while Martin was on tour with Young's project Sontag Shogun in April 2014, as a meeting place between the lush ambient layerings of cello, guitar and tape-collage textures, and conceived in the months to follow. Each piece begins with a tape-loop cut from short piano compositions by Young, and is then augmented brick by brick in fluid, stream-of-consciousness instrumental improvisations. The four repeating tape splices never quite retreat too far from the foreground, and as the textures become more and more lush, the loops seem to change their definition, adapting endlessly to the sonics around them. Minimal electronic treatment serves only as a binding element here, yet it is the raw and untampered integrity of the instrumentals that sits at the core of this collaboration. 

These four works are true meditations on a theme, laid down onto and anchored by the tape. Let this album pass over you like cirrus clouds on their way inland, or underneath you like a woodland stream.

The ambient/electronic work ‘Stare’ is a true family effort from Ólafur Arnalds and Nils Frahm with Anne Müller joining in on cello and all graphics by close label-friend and now in-house designer Torsten Posselt of Feld Studios.
