Emergency doctor by day (and night), secret singer and not-so secret record label boss Paralaxe Editions provides us with a glimpse of all three of these worlds in “Soundpainting Syntax”. In just over 20 minutes we are privy to field recordings of her Emergency Department workplace, night shift drones (!) and voice-memos she recorded to herself - disguised later in her studio in Spain for anonymity. A taste-masker of the wilder variety, Paralaxe Editions adds sprinkles of somewhat reassuring/somewhat eerie musical elements (charms, water droplet sounds, melodic samples) but for the most part she keeps the focus on the real dealings of her environment, making this a serious listen for these serious times.

"Ah, cassette #4-- a split release by two very dear NYC friends whom I've known for years via my involvement with the International Winners Collective. Each side is a single piece of music, each being distinctly different.

Side A is a solo piece for grand piano by Gabe Raines' Suncastle project. Historically, Gabe's work involves immersive, sitting performances centered around sublime drones with trance-inducing visuals and lights. It came as a much-welcomed surprise when I went to see Gabe perform at the Park Church Co-Op in the Winter of 2019. He enlisted the help of a large orchestra/ensemble for a performance of two new works. The piece on this tape, "Tonal Rainstorm", was the first of the two-- serene and percussive, with a very dynamic trajectory."
