A designer of utterly unique and involving soundscapes informed by roots in rave-era ambient music, Move D (aka David Moufang) can best be described as taking the intelligence and deep textures of IDM and imbuing them onto the softer, sexier parameters of the Chicago house/Detroit techno axis.   His tracks build slowly, taking time to reveal their full breadth, but the many fans already on board with Moufang’s style know that Move D is all about the journey and little to do with a final destination.  In 2010 MUTEK invited him to perform one of his ambient style house sets live. Opening the night at Métropolis in front of the red velvet curtain, with only a simple spotlight on him, he concocted a delicious and slow building narrative that we are pleased to present for the very first time, and as the final issue in our special 15th Anniversary podcast series.

Despite being an established produce and DJ, there's an element of mystery when it comes to the musical force that is Man Power. His workings to date have seen him explore a plethora of shapes, textures and tones and his debut, self titled album, out now on Correspondant sees the music-maker delve deeper into his world of leftfield influences, citing Laurie Anderson, Steve Reich, Tangerine Dream and Aphex Twin as notable artists of inspiration. From spacious, downtempo atmospherics through to straight up electro pop, Man Power has been championed by the likes of Tim Sweeney and John Talabot and we are hyped to have him enter the i-D mix crew. Derry producer The Cyclist is, by his own admission, a throwback.

In a manifesto-of-sorts on his Soundcloud page, he sets out his intentions as “an attempt to get to a time in electronic music where everything sounds warmer”, citing “more techno-ey tunes by Throbbing Gristle” and Boards of Canada’s Geogaddi “but with the more danceable edge of New Order” as inspirations. “This needed to be done”, his statement reads, “And needs to be done more. Let’s call it Tape Throb for now.”

Of course, in 2015 this necessarily make The Cyclist unique: more than enough virtual ink has been spilt on noise-techno crossover records, and “tape throb” might as well be the M.O. of a label like 1080p Collection. He does, however, do it better than most. 2013’s Bones in Motion was a beautiful record (as Angus Finlayson wrote in FACT, an album “that renders even simple arrangements partially indecipherable – as if they hover teasingly out of focus – and lends these tracks a certain cryptic quality”), and the more recent Flourish and Hot House have developed The Cyclist’s knack for saturating memorable melodies in fuzz until they sound like just that: memories.

As previously mentioned, The Cyclist isn’t alone in his journey, and his FACT mix feels like a minor manifesto in itself. Although it only includes three tunes by him, the whole set fits his vision, with music from Fort Romeau, Anthony Naples and Suicide captured through that same gauzy lens. Hot House is out now on Music is for Losers.

Solid Steel in association with Serato (26th February) Our guest in Hour 1 is Harvey Sutherland, an Australian artist that has graced labels such as Voyage Recordings, Echovolt, Voltaire and previous guest Motor City Drum Ensemble's label. He's been working closely with his new Bermuda Trio in Melbourne and recently collaborated with Kane Ikin on their Coup d'etat project which saw the release of an EP earlier this month on CDT. You can catch Harvey Sutherland live throughout Europe in March and April. This is what he had to say about his mix;
