This month’s Carhartt WIP Radio episode features independent record label @smalltownsupersound, founded over 30 years ago in Norway by Joakim Haugland.

While some may have discovered the label through anthemic tracks like Todd Terje’s “Inspector Norse”, others might know it through its growing roster of artists, including Kelly Lee Owens, Lindstrøm, Neneh Cherry and Actress. Today, Smalltown Supersound continues to defy categorization, with recent releases from composer Kara-Lis Coverdale and UK producer Barker.

For this edition of Carhartt WIP Radio, Haugland discusses how Norway’s underdeveloped music scene drove him to create his own, why staying a curious music ‘fan’ is essential, and how making this month’s mix shifted his perspective.
