Ron Albrecht joins for DifferentSound Podcast #242.

Ron Albrecht began his musical career in the early nineties. His first trips to Berlin clubs like "Tresor", "Bunker" and "E-Werk" made him switch from being a regular music consumer to discovering the field of performing and DJ-ing. Obligatory visits of Germany’s possibly most popular record shops back then, such as the "Hardwax" in Berlin and "Container Records" in Hamburg, led Ron Albrecht to finding his very own style. Inspired by national and international scene experts like Tanith, Rok, Kid Paul and Jeff Mills, just to name a few, it was time to come out into the open for the first time in 1993. Over the years he played his music in almost every club in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany, but he didn't stop there. Performances at music festivals such as the Fusion (2000, 2006, 2013), SMS (2005, 2006) and Melt (2000) as well as appearances in many well known clubs, e.g. Tresor Berlin, Ultraschall Munich, Phonodrome and Waagenbau Hamburg, Muna Bad Klosterlausnitz and most recently Berghain Berlin, maintain his musical career. While his sets of modern sounds always make for variety, it is important to artist to always enrich his music by refering to the origins of techno and house. Between 1997 and 2002 Ron Albrecht additionally worked as a producer together with his associate Thomas Kuffner, releasing several records under the labels "Sind Records" and "ElektronikParlament". He also worked as co-operator of the "EasytraxxRecordstores" in Schwerin from 1995 to 2006. Above all, his name is still closely connected to the old-established GERBEREI club in Schwerin, which the co-founder, organizer and resident ran from 1994 until its closing in 2013. "Brothers in Mind", a DJ and producer collaboration, is another one of Ron Albrechts projects which he puts into practice together with his longtime friend Stefan Rein. Their newest musical output can be found under their label PURE - "Tatort"

With a wealth of musical knowledge at his disposal he wields a number of aliases, but perhaps his most well known moniker is that of Black Jazz Consortium. This is just a part of what sets Fred P apart from his contemporaries as his mindset and approach to his craft is one that will continue to draw fans new and old to his music. When it comes to techno, electro, and more importantly Electroclash, few can argue The Hacker’s credentials. The Frenchman was instrumental in the formative years of these movements and being active since the mid-90s has meant his discography is positively bursting with pivotal moments from electronic music. It is nearly impossible to discuss The Hacker without mentioning Miss Kittin, with some of their work such as “Champagne” EP including seminal tracks “Frank Sinatra” and “!982”. This is of course only a small, but not very important part of The Hacker’s story. With a string of solo albums and countless EPs to his name, the cross-section of electronic music that The Hacker enjoys is wide. Many Korean musicians have attempted to reinterpret a form of traditional Korean music called Minyo by blending it with modern genres. However, these efforts often fall short, largely because they remain too anchored in tradition. Most approaches cling so tightly to the conventional structure of Korean music that they leave little space for modern sounds to integrate meaningfully. Another challenge lies in the irregular rhythms and unique tonal colors of Minyo, which make it difficult to harmonize with contemporary music styles.

Yet these particular musicians—SsingSsing, I believe—have created something extraordinary. Their genre is not just a fusion; it’s a new artistic language. They preserve the essence of Korean traditional music while embracing the best elements of modern styles. Even though they sing in the traditional method known as Chang, their performances don’t feel out of place—they resonate with a refreshing modernity. I’m deeply impressed. These individuals aren’t just skilled performers; they’re true artists.
