One22 Resource Center was established in 2016 as the result of the merger of three long-time legacy organizations - the Community Resource Center, Latino Resource Center and El Puente. One22 helps navigate people through crisis.

Sharel Lund - One22 Resource Center - This is Our Town

Listen in to this week's edition of "This is Our Town" as Justin Lancaster joins Del Ray in the KJAX (93.5 FM) studio. Justin is the School Resource Officer for the Teton County School District and works hard to keep our kids safe and our schools secure. Learn more about what his role of the SRO does. 

School is back in session and there are lots of kids out and about early in the mornings and in the afternoons.

Please watch carefully for children near school buildings, in areas where school buses are traveling, and where there are signs for school zones and bus stops. Remember, if you are approaching a school bus from either the front or behind, and its yellow lights are flashing, the bus is preparing to stop. If the buses red lights are flashing you must stop.

Motorists are asked to drive cautiously and allow themselves plenty of time to get to their destinations especially at times children will be getting on or off school buses. Jackson Police will be enforcing speed limits and school bus passing violations in and around school areas and where children are being picked up and dropped off. The safety of children, cyclists, and motorists is a top priority for the police department. Motorists can help reduce risk to children going to and from school by:

*  Slowing down in school and residential areas

*  Watching for clues that give warning of children in the area (bicycles, crossing guards, school busses)

*  Obeying all traffic signs/symbols

*  Avoiding school zones, if possible, during arrival and dismissal hours

*  Clearing any frost, fog or snow from windows before driving
Parents are encouraged to instruct their children about safe crossing practices before the opening of the school year including using sidewalks, crosswalks, and designated school crossings whenever possible.

Justin Lancaster - School Resource Officer - Jackson Police Department

Listen in as Tracey Trefren, the Jackson/Teton County Victim Services Coordinator, joins Del Ray in the KJAX (93.5 FM) studio to talk about Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Tracey has been with Victim Services for over 17 years in that time she has learned many things, but one of the biggest is the value of being present with someone through a crisis.  

During the month of October, Tracey and her team is working to bring awareness to the topic of domestic violence and where to turn for resources.

Tracey Trefren - Victim Services Coordinator - Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Listen in to this week's edition of "This is Our Town" on KJAX (93.5 FM). Tanya Anderson, the Town of Jackson's Ecosystem Stewardship Administrator stopped by and spoke with Del Ray.

Tanya is an amazing individual and brings a wealth of experience to this new position in the Town. 

She talks about the recently approved Wildlife Feeding Regulations and new Bear-Resistant Trash Ordinance. Both of these go into effect on April 1, 2022.

Here are a few main points: 

Feeding of wildlife is prohibited. Bird feeders must be kept inaccessible to wildlife other than birds.

The Mountain Neighbor Handbook (mountainneighbor.org) has great examples. 
•	Wildlife attractants must be secured in a bear-resistant building or enclosure. This includes compost, pet food, beehives, livestock feed, coolers, grease, grills, and more. 

•	BearWise Jackson Hole provides assistance with property improvements to reduce or secure attractants. 

•	No planting of new ornamental fruit-bearing trees (fruiting trees planted for beauty rather than food) such as crabapple trees. Existing fruit-bearing trees must be harvested, pruned, or fenced to prevent wildlife such as bears from accessing them. 

•Teton Conservation District provides support for conservation planting for those who might want to replace a tree rather than manage it. Farmstead Cider will trade you some of their cider for your cider-producing apples. 

•	Bear-resistant trash containers or enclosures will be required within the Bear Conflict Zone. The Bear Conflict Zone map can be viewed on the Town/County GIS map server. There is a cost associated with the containers as well as an increased cost to service them. 

• Contact your waste hauler or Jackson Hole Bear Solutions to inquire about getting a bear-resistant container. JH Bear Solutions offers containers in two sizes at a reduced price based upon what people can pay. 

•	Most waste haulers offer different pricing options for different-sized bins (bear-resistant containers come in 65 and 95 gallon sizes) or for less frequent pickup. Altering purchasing habits, recycling, or dropping off your compost at the Recycling Center (up to a 5-gallon bucket) or Trash Transfer Station can all reduce your waste and, as a result, how much you pay for disposal.

Jackson Ecosystem Stewardship - Tanya Anderson

Listen in to this week's edition of "This is Our Town" as Bruce Abel, the START Bus Director, talks to Del Ray in the KJAX (93.5 FM) studios.  

Bruce talks about the new service areas of START On-Demand including a pilot program in Rafter J, Melody Ranch and South Park. In addition the existing START On-Demand program in East Jackson will now offer a pick-up / drop-off option to Albertsons. 

START Bus On-Demand: this service provides free, on-demand transportation using smaller vehicles and providing seamless public transport.  Riders will be able to schedule service through an app from their location to any destination in East Jackson including to START’s transit hub at Miller Park for connection to commuter and local and Teton Village routes. The new offerings will also offer East Jackson service access to Albertsons and it will service Rafter J, Melody Ranch and South Park - giving access to Smith's / Eagle Village Plaza.

NEW START ON DEMAND SERVICE AREAS - BRUCE ABEL - TRANSIT DIRECTOR

Listen in to last week's edition of "This is Our Town" as Jackson Police Officer, Heidi Schmidl, stopped by the KJAX (93.5 FM) studio to talk with DelRay. On Friday, December 23 members of the law enforcement community were busy as beavers wrapping gifts for area children. That night there was lovely dinner and gifts were presented to the kids.

Each year the Jackson Police Department participates in this program - a wonderful way to give back to the community. It was a smashing success.

"Shop with a Cop" - A Wonderful Success - Heidi Schmidl, Jackson Police Officer

Beverly and Sgt. Matthews talk about a wide range of topics ranging from alcohol consumption to mental health. The holidays can be a difficult time for some people, but please know that there are people who care about you in this community and there are incredible resources available. 

We encourage everyone to celebrate responsibly this New Year's Eve. The Jackson Police Department would like to remind everyone to drive safely this New Year’s Eve.  For those who will be drinking, please plan ahead to have a sober ride home - we want you to get home safely. For those choosing to drink and drive, please know that law enforcement partners will be out in full force to keep impaired drivers off the roadways.

Vehicles parked on town streets or in town parking lots after 2:00 AM will be ticketed and may be towed.   If you are planning on going out for the evening, the Town of Jackson encourages you to plan for the possibility of parking.  Overnight parking is permitted in the parking structure located at Milward Street and Simpson Ave.  Vehicles are allowed to park in the garage for up to 48 hours.

CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING
From now until January 31 residents can drop their Christmas Trees off at the TC Fairgrounds (by the recycling bins). PLEASE remove all lights, ornaments, tinsel, and other decorations before dropping off. The trees will be recycled by the good folks at Terra Firma and used locally rather than hauled to the Bonneville landfill.

STILSON TRANSIT CENTER OPEN HOUSE
Join us on Tuesday, January 10 from 5:30pm - 7:00pm to discuss and learn about the Stilson Transit Center and the Teton Mobility Corridor Improvements BUILD Grant. The meeting will take place at the Mountain Academy / Teton Science Schools (700 Coyote Canyon Road).
