RENE LAVICE 89.5FM THE PROPHECY 2011/10/02

The uptempo remix comes courtesy of Vancouver's Woodhead, no newcomer
himself to our little universe. His 2011 EP on Punchout was replete
with clever reworks, and his work here is similarly inspired. Starting
with straight-ahead Chicago-style house percussion, he proceeds to
flip the track around by incising the B-section bass into a tight
electro-funk riff off the top. He rides vocal snippets and Moogy space
lazers until the original's A-section appears, breaks it down, and
rides it out on the back of his tightly mixed drums.

Neighbour's latest single is a good reflection of his experiences in
the past few years. Sun-drenched west-coast festivals seem to be his
summertime activities, and in the winter he's been ducking out to
Brazil for increasingly long periods of time. His output has always
been rich in harmony and emotion, and this is no exception. "Purple
Lights" has been a crate staple for Homebreakin affiliates since its
composition in 2009, and the hot remix pack brings some heavyweight
depth to the material.

DJ Weekly Podcast: J Boogie

Hey! Remember Vinyl? When i started djing that's all anyone played... Beat Matching took a bit of skill and record stores in Victoria were making money! Crazy hey?! I used to spend every extra dollar on vinyl dance records at Boomtown. I made the switch to digital years ago, but my love for the Black Crack never faded.  With the creation of All Wax Wednesdays at the Mint a few months ago, the vault was opened.  I rediscovered great records I still loved that weren't all scratched to shit. Next time i was in Vancouver I hit Beat Street records and left with a giant box of 2 and 3 dollar records..

   I had relapsed. 
   
   A few weeks later I decided it would be a good idea to go down to San Francisco where they still have lots of record stores. I had to buy two flight cases to bring home all the goodies I'd collected!  That was last week and this is a recording of my jam last night. One take.. so be kind! ;) Some of these records are brand new and others were mined out of giant discount bins.. Some are fresh copies of tracks i destroyed when i was so busy playing and partying i couldn't be bothered to put them away properly.  They all give me a little extra joy to share with you because of my experience acquiring them. Extra effort for extra enjoyment. I hope you love this mix as much as I loved creating it.
