When a deservedly hyped label like No.19 Music states that its biggest release is about to drop then a certain amount of attention is due and that’s exactly what the label’s 19th release, Tanner Ross’ ‘bSide EP’, deserves.

Despite having clocked up an impeccable discography that takes in collaborations with Soul Clap, Claude Vonstroke as well as output for Freerange, Mothership, Culprit and K7! this is Ross’ first solo release under his given name and is causing a enormous buzz via consistent plays from Art Department, Wolf + Lamb, Soul Clap, Crosstown Rebels main-man Damian Lazarus and more.

Adding to the two stunning originals, ‘bSide’ and ‘For You ft. Flo Night’, and pushing things into unmissable territory is a brilliant remix of the latter from Crosstown Rebels / Wolf & Lamb family member, Deniz Kurtel.

‘bSide’ itself is a mid-tempo, lazy groove which gently opens out with warm delayed vocals and creeping drums - hypnotic and subtle, it’s one hell of an intro but the drop into the fat, sumptuous bass hook is pure joy. Steadily joined by soaring, high-end keyboard licks that balance the track beautifully, there’s a sudden realisation the title of ‘bSide’ is a in-joke that’s being shared.

‘For You ft. Flo Night’ continues proceedings with a sexy, blissed out pace. Thudding, raw and mechanical disco drums underpin yet another rich, dominant Moog bass that oozes P, G and just about every other funk there is. Floating soundscapes, gloriously sliding top lines and Flo Night’s effected vox ebb and flow like liquid while a beat-perfect arrangement allows every element to truly sing which makes for a timeless slice of music.

Rounding things off is the prodigious talent that is Deniz Kurtel with her version of ‘For You ft. Flo Night’. Building from skittering percussive hits, dubbed-out vocals and spacious ambience into an incredibly catchy bassline, it’s a remix that unravels and combines melodies so impressively it begs repeated listens.

With a full length for Wolf & Lamb in progress plus collaborations with Deniz Kurtel and Soul Clap on the way, this is an essential piece of listening and one that celebrates a contemporary star….

Having recently celebrated its second birthday with the release of ‘100% Continental’, a best-of mix conceived by its A&R/DJ Jerry Bouthier, Continental records now stops off in Japan for Boys Get Hurt’s new EP: ‘Your Love’ featuring Cinema Citizen.

Already noticed for his remixes (Reflex, Chela, Autokratz, DCUP, Pherotone…) and with several releases under his belt (including a track on the ‘Bonjour Colette’ compilation), Tokyo-based Yuki Abe AKA producer/DJ Boys Get Hurt gets his inspiration from the melancholic feelings the end of summer inevitably brings about, a personal and evocative sensibility in tune with the land of the rising sun’s delicate culture. Yuki expertly crafts bouncy disco-house music with sprinklings of electronica, indie, ambient, hip-hop and R&B – perfect 2014 pop to our ears.

On ‘Your Love’, a meaningful song to practice your best dance moves to, he has teamed up with male vocalist Cinema Citizen - Nobuki Akiyama, borrowed to band Ykiki Beat - for a boyish declaration of love in all its teenage glory.  Dutch rising star NSFW gives it a slick makeover with a deeper twist, whilst French hopeful Avantime takes a slightly more introspective route. Let’s not forget the sublime B-side ‘Sea Through’, a tantalizing, hypnotic disco merry-go-round which shows the prolific Boys Get Hurt is far from being a one-trick pony.

Lombardo has forged a unique path for herself in underground circles, building up a formidable back catalogue of tracks and enviable performances at some of the best party locations in the world. Here, she demonstrates her mastery at the controls with two tracks that riff on the theme of water, and how rivers move through time and space. 

'Flumen' flows hypnotically, a thick beat that provides the basis for the ominous, unpredictable melodic flourishes around the edges. 

'Psycho', as the name suggests, brings things to a climax, a rushing, powerful surge of tech house that ramps up the tension via interwoven synth lines and bubbling bass pulses.
