Silhouettes (Acoustic)

Originally from near Leuven, Belgium, Carl Durant went for a musical adventure in San Diego, CA that ended up lasting 11 years. Vocally reminiscent of The Decemberists, he became a regular in the coffeehouse circuit (Lestat’s, ...) playing solo gigs with his looping pedal and finger-picked or strummed guitar. With his live band he also gigged in venues as House of Blues and Anthology. About his self-released EP, the San Diego Troubadour wrote “Durant is a solid songwriter, with a lot of potential” and some airplay on local radio stations was well received: “LOVE the song "Appropriate" sounded good on the air tonight..” - Mookie (KPRI). 

Having developed a European sound (think Ed Sheeran) infused with the west coast songwriter influence of Jason Mraz, Tom Waits and the likes, Carl now has his live band The Lost Kings in Belgium, while still regularly playing solo in intimate venues or living rooms.
Latest singles were recorded with Grammy-winning Alan Sanderson in San Diego while his self-produced EP “Last Place” is available for streaming (Spotify/Deezer) or free download: http://www.carldurant.com

His debut single "Appropriate" has been aired numerous times on Radio Sophie, KPRI, Rock105.3FM and 91x in San Diego. Sonically, comparisons with Bruce Springsteen's "I'm on fire" and with Clannad were made. Other tracks from his EP "Last Place" were aired on KPRI.
His single "Secret", released during KPRI's Homegrown Hour on 3/4/12, starts out as a lullaby and ends with an edgy twist. End of 2012, the release of "(Not Our) Ride Home" was described in the San Diego Reader as a tribute to the young victims of a bus crash in Sierre, Switzerland. In the last two years in CA, Carl has shared the stage with Adam Levy, Belgian (platinum-selling) artist Milow, iTunes&Bilboard charting Jesse Thomas, Platinum Hit finalist Jes Hudak, local SDMA nominees Folding Mr Lincoln and award winners Josh Damigo and Colin Clyne. 

Since being back in Belgium he played on the main stage of Het Depot (opening for Berry Quincy), Crisisfestival, played shows and show cases at Het Depot, De Monk, Blauwe Kater, Club 9, Vleugel F, Den Deugniet, 't Archief, Borrestaminee (cc De Borre), AB Club, BazArt Café, At the Bebop, Novanois, The Aloft Brussels, and private events. Carl also plays solo house concerts where he can add a bit more narrative in between songs than on a festival stage. 
A full-page article and interview with Carl appeared in Rondom Leuven in January 2015.  

In 2016, Radio 2 put his latest single "No matter what" in rotation and the video received over 15k views so far. New recordings are in the making.
