A dark-ambient/neo-folk/electronic piece released under the banner "Aiwos" and titled "Greujandī in Skōgai" (which _may_ be a slightly Northern-flavored bit of Proto-Germanic meaning, I hope, something like "Dawn in the Forest" ... depending on how my philological skills were holding up at the time of labelling the piece!).

This started as an experiment to approach the guitar tones of Garry "Gaz" Jennings (ex-Cathedral), though I eventually decided these are best approximated by a dimed (and perhaps somewhat boosted) JCM800. But then it acquired riffs, drums, bass -- and, of course, rain, thunder, and tolling church bells. It needs some appropriately off-the-wall lyrics and probably either a psychedelically-tinged breakdown or galloping Sabbathy fast section (or both) carrying on from where the current demo ends. Have to think about it!

A prog death metal piece that is the strange off-shoot of a course I taught on Old Norse. The lyrics are all derived from the Old Norse poem "Vǫluspá", and I've attempted to approach the medieval (rather than Modern Icelandic) pronunciation, though I am sure the pronunciation is colored by all the other languages with which I'm familiar. Still, there are relatively few 13th-century (let alone 11th-century) Scandinavians around to laugh at my efforts (which are all a bit "Cookie Monster" anyway).

This is a mix I did from multitracks provided by ProduceLikeAPro.com​. I usually just record and mix my own stuff, but I like both The Beatles and noisy guitar music 😎 and the kids in this band seem cool, so I was just inspired to have a crack at it! This is actually the first time I've attempted to mix something with a real, recorded drum kit 😅 but that the fact that it was really well recorded (by Phil Allen at The Village Studios in LA) made it less daunting than it could have been.

Straight-up space-rockin' and shamelessly derivative in a Sun-Dial-meets-Hawkwind-meets-Kyuss-meets-Monster-Magnet kind of way .... And so, quite good fun! :) 

Afterburner

Actually a piece of guitar-lesson "homework composition", the "working title" means "Hell-Ride of the Viking Kittens" in Old Norse. 🤓  I'm pretty happy with the demo verse/chorus (and lead) sections, thoug the second half devolves into a bridge section in 3/4 that I'm not quite sure what to do with. And I would need to lift from stanzas from Old Norse poetry to create lyrics .... Perhaps some day! 😁

Another piece of "guitar homework", with the title loosely referring to the fact that the subject of the homework was the E harmonic minor scale. I thought the main riffs had sort of an '80s vibe, so I added some vaguely synthwave-inspired synth parts.

Another piece of guitar homework -- ostensibly for practicing E harmonic minor double-stops in sixths. I have no idea why it came to me in 3/4 time, but it did. (Thus the name, which is "Deathwaltz" in Swedish.)

Dödsvals

A guitar lesson "homework" composition built around the use of the A Super Locrian scale; this is a type of scale familiar to jazz folks, but perhaps less common in rock/metal. So, the remit was to create a super dissonant slab of doom, and this is what came out.

Another short instrumental demo derived from guitar lessons -- in this case, using a tuning with the low 6th string dropped to B and the remaining strings capo'd at the 2nd fret.

Alas, These Evil Days (Instrumental Demo)

My primary-school daughter discovered she could make stuff with loops -- so she did. I offered some compositional and production recommendations, and while some she took, others she didn't. :) So this is really hers. She picked the title (?) and chose the artwork as well.  Ahh! If only they'd had such toys when I was a kid! :D

Around the Circle of Songs (Luna Maya Anderson & Carl Edlund Anderson)

A partial demo for an "epic metal" arrangement of the famous Scottish border ballad (Child 39). It's definitely unfinished: at the moment, the story only reaches the point where Tam reveals that "the Queen of Fairies, she caught me when from my horse I fell" -- and it's already over six-and-a-half minutes long. Recorded in Garageband, though the guitar and bass amp models are courtesy of some Amplitube plug-ins, and the drums were programmed in Doggiebox with the old ns_kit7 samples. My version of the lyrics is kind of a mash-up of various attested variants; the music is mostly my own, though it references bits of the arrangements made famous by Fairport Convention and Steeleye Span. It's gonna be huge and bombastic as all get out by the time I finish it! :)

The Right Stuff

Formed in 1971 ;) Carl grew up on a musical diet of folk, jazz, and classical music, before succumbing to the heady glories of rock-and/or-roll in a teenage daze. Thereafter, he played guitar and bass, wrote songs, and generally jammed out in various bands in the US and UK. 

Now based in Colombia, South America, the demands of fatherhood and family life may have, admittedly, slowed his output a bit, but have by no means dampened his enthusiasm as he continues mucking about with home-recording projects (thus being forced to add keyboards, drum programming, and -- gulp! -- vocals to his repertoire) while hoping that technology eventually makes online collaborations easier. :)
