For fans of Batman: The Animated Series, the music is just as important as the art style. The dark, orchestral themes and sultry, jazzy character pieces are legendary. Now, Epic Toy Sound has delivered an entire original album, BTAS: Inspired By, designed as the ultimate soundtrack for your Gotham City creations.

The album cover itself, a deep-cut reference to the BTAS-style Jonah Hex, sets the tone perfectly. This is a love letter to the dark, gothic world of the show.

We listened to the full 8-track album, and here is our breakdown for all you toy photographers, stop-motion artists, and content creators.

1. Gargoyle Perch

The Vibe: Dark, brooding, and atmospheric. This is the sound of a stakeout, with lonely orchestral swells over a tense, steady beat. It's pure "waiting in the shadows" music.

Use For: The perfect track for cinematic pans across your Gotham diorama, a hero shot of Batman brooding on a rooftop, or any scene building suspense.

2. I Am the Night

The Vibe: This is Batman. The track is dark, cinematic, and full of tragic, heroic weight. It's the sound of a vow made in an alleyway.

Use For: Your essential "main theme" for any video focused on Batman himself. Use it for character introductions, slow-motion action, or flashbacks.

3. She Kills Me

The Vibe: Instantly mischievous, quirky, and playful. The bouncy, noir-jazz theme and clarinet melody screams "Harley Quinn." It's fun, but with a clear layer of unhinged energy.

Use For: This is the ultimate Harley theme. Perfect for any content featuring her, her relationship with the Joker, or any other playful, unpredictable character.

4. The Cat and the Bat

The Vibe: A slow, slinky, and seductive noir-jazz track. This is the sound of a "cat and mouse" game played in the moonlight. It's mysterious and alluring.

8. Gotham Undertones

The Vibe: Dark, industrial, and unsettling ambience. This isn't a theme; it's the sound of the city's dark underbelly.

Use For: An excellent audio bed for narration. Use it for establishing shots of Arkham Asylum, Crime Alley, or any dark, gritty location in your diorama.

These are all voice memo living room renditions of one very flexible structured improvisational composition called "Commentary" which has appeared in various forms throughout our catalogue, as some may realise (along with its cousins "Bop Science" and "Reprise"). I play this every day, as a physcial and mental exercise. It isn't easy to perform correctly but it is always fun. I'm lucky to have such a smart and musical wife ;-)

The selections here went together nicely as a suite. I hope you find them enjoyably formal as well.
