A Lil' Bit About Cranky Owls:
Cranky Owls is the new collaborative brainchild of two established American producers who have had their collective claws on the pulse of global 'House' music for over two decades. The tongue in cheek name evokes imagery of wise, nocturnal creatures who never seem to get enough sleep. Cranky, but lovable at the same time - these are just a few of the endearing characteristics that the sly production duo possess.  Suffice to say that the name is appropriate and the union of these two industry veterans was a match made in heaven! The melding of their respective musical styles is a unique blend of House music that is deep, soulful and abstact in nature, with a concentrated focus on what moves the dance floor. The first offering is an mesmerizing 8 minute journey simply titled "Times Up" - a subtle reminder and wake up call for all House purists to open their minds to converging styles of house music. Clocking in at a groove friendly 120 BPM, "Times Up" is a bumpin' deep house affair that's been road tested and is versatile enough to work in the main room, as well as more intimate settings. As the title would imply, it could serve as a set closing anthem. “Times Up” features vocal contributions from the 'Owls' themselves and a lil' help from a lady with the midas touch, Solara. The track comes complete with punchy no nonsense beats, hypnotic arpeggios, quirky percussive hits & atmospheric FX, filtered rhythmic keys, moody cello riffs, ambient electric guitar, drama infused pads and one NASTY bass line. A Lil' Bit About Keith:
Keith Evan has played a major role in the deep house community throughout the US dating back to the early 90’s.  For the past 20 years Keith has hung his hat, not only as a dj, but as a globally respected promoter for some of the top dance music gatherings in the United States and Mexico.  His background includes a 13+ year history pioneering the House music movement in Las Vegas. He is the master mind for the world renown Soundbar events; a stage for many of todays most respected DJs including Kerri Chandler, Osunlade, Kenny Dope Gonzales, Rich Medina and Mark Farina. Currently he is globally branded under the Mi Casa Es Su Casa and Ambassadors identities as a touring artist, including executive rolls as a promoter and musical director.  His extensive background includes performing on some of the genre’s highest platforms including Salted w/Miguel Migs, Sublevel w/Doc Martin, and Turntables on the Hudson w/ Nickodemus to name just a few. It was just a matter of time before this award winning DJ/Promoter would make his way into the studio. This natural progression under the newly branded Cranky Owls moniker with Groove Junkies own Evan Landes is a further extension of this visionaries calling. Just in time for Crimbo, Hypercolour drops a four tracker from Newcastle born Edmondson.  With a release previously on Indigo's, Mindset Records sub label 'Electro Magnetic Fields' this young novice certainly shows huge potential on this EP.

Title track ‘Chestnut Ave’ eases in gently, lazy pianos and stabs sit over the wooden thump of the drum track, a sweet little early hours cut here.  ‘Tendency’ builds with its atmospherics, the broken beat and vox cranking in, evoking shades of MJ Cole but certainly on its own path, all the while building up a lush collage of rising synths and floating keys.

Attention to atmospheric detail is certainly one of Edmondson’s strong points, and on ‘U Belong’, the jerky rhythms and cut ups are soaked in reverb, without compromise to the solid shuffling beats.  Final track ‘Don’t Stop’ is a right gurt lush doseage of laid back funk, one of those tracks that could quite easily go on forever and ever and you’d never tire of it’s slick groove.
