I’m standing with my feet slightly apart, my body perpendicular to the floor. The room expands horizontally as I scan it from my upright posi- tion. Head tilts forward. I lift my hand above my shoulder and its blood starts rushing towards the body. I pump my heart harder to maintain the blood flow in my fingertips, and clench my fist around a clump of air that immediately dissolves. The fingers are clawing into my palm in this empty hold. The resistance is immense and I am doing nothing. The thousands of forces that impact every cell in my skin, the gravity I need to fight throu- gh the pressure I will always exert to be alive and present against the insistence of these forces.
To stand, a body is representing its ultimate power of self control, a display of its machine’s efficiency and valiance. To stand proud, and stand still, just standing and doing nothing while pumping hard, the agonist muscles contracting against the antagonist muscles to main- tain the tension necessary to keep a balance in a precise position that directly counteracts the arrows of gravity. The upright posture runs against them. Information from various sources is conveyed to the machine that weighs it, parts it, shreds it. Each millisecond is the one in which the de- cision is made. Energy shall be made and spent to counteract external forces that hit the surface. To build better surfaces, to suggest a body as the antagonist of a Black Hole that is the physical demonstration of zero. Within each movement, I balance solutions. I am a one, the one - that is opposed to nothing.
