Finally putting time into learning how to really use Logic. This week's assignment a 1 to 2 minute Midi Sequence using no effects and no apple loops. Just Drum Designer, ES1 and ES2 (Synths), and EXS24 (sampler). Haven't hooked my midi keyboard up yet, so this was all done though apple's "musical typing" and using logic remote app to trigger some of the drum samples.

This hasn't been really mixed or mastered, so its rough around the edges, remember no effects = no EQ. Compression, etc.

My 9 year-old is getting into this and has started to teach himself Garageband. He named this song "Mission Control."

I probably over did the vocal samples, but they were a fun addition to play with.

In The City

This weeks work in progress is a new tune I wrote on Sunday. It is a simple ABA form. It's probably a little busy with lots of parts but I am having fun messing around on Garageband with different possibilities. Feeling like I may have finally worked through ten years of writers block. And I am starting to feel like my playing is back to where I left off when I went into semi-retirement.

WIP-New Tune

On This weeks work in progress I record my fast solo jazz guitar piece. This is a tune by Wes Montgomery, and I play his arrangement of it. I am posting this with a couple warts, but my one requirement was that i do it all in one take. So overall I am happy with the progress I am making. Also I pulled out my Gibson L5 for this recording. 

Solo Guitar WIP - Mi Cosa

Work in Progress. Working on learning more about Effects and Amp modeling. In the assignment I had to compose parts to go with a funky bass line and drum loop. so the Bass and Drums are not me but I layered 4 Guitar Tracks in this experiment.

After earning a B.A. in Music at UC Berkeley and attending the Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT) in Los Angeles, Carlos Palomares taught and performed guitar extensively in the San Francisco area for over a decade. Carlos’ teaching experience included running a home teaching studio with students of all levels, of all ages, and in diverse genres. In addition to teaching, Carlos performed professionally in a wide variety of bands, including rock, blues, funk, disco, and traditional Cuban son.

Carlos’ performance experience includes nine years as a guitarist in Superbooty, one of San Francisco’s most in-demand disco and funk party bands. Superbooty headlined San Francisco’s legendary Fillmore Auditorium and performed on bills with George Clinton and the P-Funk All-Stars, Morris Day and the Time, Digital Underground, Los Lobos, and more.

Carlos collaborated with the singer Hector Quintana to write songs and form the band Songo. The music drew from a variety of musical influences from rock, blues, jazz, and Afro-Cuban music. In 2000, Songo entered the recording studio; Carlos formed a record label and publishing company, Mo-Bana Records and Music, and produced the CD and  to release, Havana Soul which received international press and airplay.  

Recently Carlos earned a M.A. in Ethnomusicology at the University of Michigan where he studied popular music in Cuba. In addition to Cuban Music, Carlos is interested in various 20th century genres of African-American music. and was a teaching assistant for a course on the history of American popular music.
