Welcome to Frequency Underground! We feature the best in regional house and techno each and every Thursday. We're mixing it up this week with some dark and deep dnb vibes from Charlotte's Hexxus!

FREQUENCY UNDERGROUND INTERVIEW WITH HEXXUS:

◾Real Name: Chad Moore

◾How did you come up with your dj name: My girlfriend and I had just moved into our new place, we had literally 2 movies to watch and one was Ferngully: The Last Rainforest. The moment Hexuss makes his appearance in the film i knew instantly i found my Dj name as there are a lot of similarities between my sound and Hexxus as a character. Both are Dark, Murky, Swampy, Moody, and even sexy at times.

◾How and when did you get into djing: I first gained interest when i started going to Psytrance shows/festivals in Asheville. I actually ended up getting into music production well before learning to Dj. I spent about 5 or 6 years collecting modular synth equipment and tinkering in ableton making darkpsy. I always loved drum and bass as well but was way more involved in the Psy scene at the time. After moving to Charlotte, i met the members of Chem Lab and there was an instant click, I would come and hang out in the basement and watch them do their thing, and probably the 3rd or 4th time of hanging out i had them show me how to beatmatch a couple tunes, it did not take long at all before i dove head first into the Drum and Bass world. 

◾Who are your musical influences and what is your inspiration: I take a lot of influence from the UK DNB scene. I randomly stumbled upon Bloq2Bloq radio stream on facebook that is based out of Manchester, UK and i would just listen to multiple Dj's throughout the day. I fell in love with the deep vibes they bring and how there is a literal never ending supply of fresh new tracks that come out almost daily from the area. Some of my favorite producers are Arkala Dre, Phentix, Alix Perez, Gest, Pola & Bryson to name a few.

◾Describe your sound as a DJ: I like to explore the darker and deeper side of Dnb while also finding interesting ways to mix and layer moody, yet beautiful, liquid tracks with each other with a sprinkle of UK MC's to keep the energy up. I also love to throw in a tasteful bootleg at unexpected moments to catch people offgaurd in the mix. 

◾What does the future hold in store for you as an artist: As of right now I'm just out here having fun playing music i love and trying to have as much fun doing it. I hope to find the time to be able to sit in the studio and start producing my own Drum and Bass to be able to play out. I have had no expectations with this since i started less than a year ago, and i've been fortunate enough Headline parties, Open for and do a DNB suprise B2B with Skrillex, and share stages with other large name acts at festivals. Hoping to keep that momentum going but all in all i'm just here to bring good times to a dancefloor.
