What an amazing way this was to kick off the new year. I couldn't think of a better way. Meeting everyone from #CampQuestionmark has got to be one of the best things that has happened to me since I moved to the Bay Area at the end of 2008. I am so grateful to be a part of this community that works tirelessly year around to bring you the best West Coast Bass Culture has to offer whether it be at NYE, Emissions Festival or the big one, Burning Man. I was left brimming to the top with love, and excitement for what this year has in store for all of us. Something tells me it will be the best year yet. This is my live mix from Camp Questionmark's Emissions Festival 2016. This is by far the most fun I have had playing out in nearly half a decade. I am humbled to be a part of the growing family of artists, musicians and visionaries that is Camp Questionmark. I have been with Camp ? since the very beginning, playing their first ever fundraiser and their first year as a Sound Camp in 2009, when we maybe had 50 people on the Dancefloor on the most packed night all the way until today when we hold the corner spot at Burning Man & we are one of the biggest Sound Camps on the Playa with as many as 26,000 people celebrating at our camp on any given night. It truly gives me faith in the notion that no dream is too big. When we as humans come together and work as a team, anything is possible. Now more than ever this kind of inspiration is absolutely indispensable. I will be forever grateful to Brian & Michelle as they have always believed in me & my music and given me great opportunities to perform at Emissions, our annual New Years Eve Party and of course Burning Man. So much love to the whole Questionmark family. There are so many people that put in countless hours to create the magic we do and I love each and every one of them. And of course to all of the music lovers, dancers, dreamers and shakers, none of this would be possible without you.

Vowel Vocalization Piece is a multi player Sound Art Piece that I created during my time studying Music and Intermedia Arts at Mills College (2014). It is meant to explore the resonance of space and creative use of the voice for the expansion of consciousness. (And for fun!) 

Vowel Vocalization: A piece for voice and space. Minimum of six players.

In many ancient cultures, the vowel sounds were considered to be sacred. This Sound Art Piece explores this concept, and the use of space through participatory group engagement. The person leading the piece will choose a resonant space for the performance that is of particular interest to them. In this case, the space for the performance will be the lobby of the Music Building at Mills College. 

For the parameters of this piece the vowel sounds we will employ are A, E, I, O, U and Om. There are two sections to the piece. Each member will choose one vowel sound to vocalize continuously for the first section of the piece. Take a deep breath and vocalize your vowel sound for as long and continuously as possible without pause, while walking around the space. Based on the vowel sound that you have chosen, find a place that resonates with the timbre of your voice, the space, your vowel and the group texture. 

 Two people will have a modifier object which allows them to do short vocalizations of their particular vowel sound, and they can pass it off to other players at will. While in possession of the modifier object players will focus on doing short vocalizations of their vowel sound while also engaging with the acoustics of the space to create new harmonics and textures in relation to the group. Each player should hold the object for a maximum of 30 seconds to allow other players a chance at short vocalizations of their vowel sound. While in possession of the object, players should search for as many different kinds of echoes as possible. Explore the entire space, corners, sides and middle paying attention to how reflections differ throughout the space. 

For the second section of the piece players can improvise through and choose any of the vowel sounds they would like at any given time. Players are still focusing on long tones, space and the texture created collectively by the group. The objects will still be being passed around, allowing those players to do short vocalizations of ANY of the vowel sounds.

After a longstanding musical career in the Bay Area and Los Angeles, DJ & Producer Carly D has returned to her roots in Costa Rica where she was first exposed to electronic dance music. She has been an active part of EDM culture since 2005. She has since performed nationally and internationally at underground parties, clubs, festivals and even the dusty realms of Burning Man. She has graced the stage at some of the nations top venues 1015 (SF), Temple (SF), Vanguard (LA), Cervantes (Denver), and festivals such as Raindance, Stilldream, Emissions & Bamboo Bass Festival.
With her ear to the future of sound she founded GruntWorthy, Music Label & Event Production Company in 2010, with partner and co-producer Dr.Knobz. GruntWorthy played a role in shaping dozens of cutting edge Future Bass Music events across the Bay Area and California.
In the label’s first year of existence, GruntWorthy had two #1 releases on Beatport, charted in the top 5 overall for the site, and even had songs played on the internationally acclaimed BBC Radio One. Carly D currently has 7 releases out on Mallabel Music, GruntWorthy, Badman Digital, and Tycho Records, respectively.
