Syven plays atmospheric, dark, and heavy ambient. The traditional Finnish string instrument - the kantele - is joined by atmospheric synth layering, ritualistic percussion and heavy distortion where appropriate to convey shamanistic and primordial themes. Originally released on Prophecy Productions' exclusive compilation "Whom the Moon a Nightsong Sings".

"After almost a year of secret collaboration, Anilah and Einar Kvitrafn Selvik (Wardruna, Gorgoroth, Vikings) have finally released a new collaboration entitled "Warrior". The 11 minute epic is a fusion of influences from both artists, ranging from the haunting and shamanic vocal invocations of Anilah, to the ancient tribal call of Einar's signature sound. The end result is a stirring composition, leaving the listener in another world all together. 

"Working on Anilah´s beautiful song "Warrior" has been an absolute pleasure for me. Due to my creative work with Wardruna being so time-consuming, it is very seldom that I can accept invitations to collaborate on other people’s projects. But when I was presented with the song Warrior I immediately liked it. I instantly heard and pictured myself being part of it, and so accepted the gracious invitation. NYTT LAND 'Fimbulvinter' CD (CSR234CD)

Second edition of Nytt Land's 2017 album, which quickly sold out on first pressing.

Notably outstanding on the Russian scene and largely compared with the legendary Wardruna, NYTT LAND are unique in their devotion to ritual Northern music and tradition. Their approach, using genuine native hand-crafted instruments, and true Old Norse, help them to grasp the true spirit of ancient Northern music like no one in Eastern Europe has done before. Their music is mostly based on the sources from Poetic Edda, performed in original Old Islandic.

"Fimbulvinter" is enriched with instruments like bagpipes and trembita (Alpine horn), and throat singing skillfully used to illustrate the occurrence of the forces of chaos; chthonic monsters in the world of men and gods. Fear and powerlessness alongside belief in the coming revival, renewal.

All Scandinavian mythology is permeated with fatalism, humbleness to fate. The same mood saturates "Fimbulvinter". The first part is dedicated to the creation of the world and people, embodying the warm seasons. The second half to winter, the death of all living things.

King Aelle of Northumbria, according to some historical accounts, was responsible for the death of Viking hero Ragnar Lothbrok. Aelle had him thrown into a pit full of venomous snakes. "How the little pigs would grunt," Ragnar is reported to have said, "if they knew how the old boar suffers!" The "little pigs," Ragnar's term of endearment for his sons, did more than grunt. Word of their father's death galvanized them into action. Experience Aelles last hours before facing his final, justful judgement.
