"Walking On Our Own" is a collaboration between the promising newcomer indie artist Matilda and indie rock singer/songwriter Carnival Kid. The haunting song tells the story of a breakup, with double bass, synths and tremolo guitar creating such a dense atmosphere that you get the feeling you're in the middle of a Swedish crime series. Matilda's clear and powerful voice cuts through this atmosphere and hits the listener right in the heart. All this culminates in a catchy and energetic hook that will be ringing in the listener's ears for days to come.

Und wenn die Illusion und der Nervenkitzel uns zu wilden, fehlgeleiteten Tieren werden lassen, dann sind es starke, aufrichtige und echte Menschen, die sich hinter keiner Fassade verstecken, die uns davor bewahren können Dinge zu tun, die wir später bereuen. 
Carnival Kids erste Single im Jahr 2022 thematisiert im Gewand eines energischen und atmosphärischen Rock-Songs die emotionale Zerrissenheit zwischen dem Vernunftwesen und dem wilden Tier. Der Song entstand als DIY Produktion, wobei Carnival Kid selbst produzierte und mixte. Das Mastering übernahm Til Kolare und das Artwork zur Single stammt von der Erfurter Künstlerin Krajamine.

Carnival Kid aus Erfurt nimmt uns in seinem Song „1996“ mit zurück in seine Kindheit und Jugend, voller intensiver und prägender Erinnerungen - vom Gefühl des Andersseins, dem Zeit totschlagen am Nachmittag auf dem Bolzer, bis hin zur Jagd durch die Straßen. "Complicated" came to my mind when I was watching my son's reaction to the first love letter he ever got. He was pretty upset by the fact that the friendship with a certain girl could become more difficult from now on and he replied with the words "we're only ten, why does it have to be so complicated?..." - the song itself is based on a simple guitar loop that got me hooked and eventually developed into a relaxed little summer pop song.

Complicated

"The Last Day" describes the feeling of being trapped within the confines of your hometown and the traditions that are connected with it. It deals with disappointment and betrayal and how a community accepts the flaws of its members while being hostile to anything new or foreign. I worked on "The Last Day" for over ten years and now it kinda represents a point of view I had back then.

The Last Day

The 11th of November, eleven minutes past 11 o’clock in the morning, sees the beginning of carnival season in Germany. Many people, including myself, don’t really care about this. But  the 11th of November 2009, at 9 past 11 A.M., my son saw the light of day. Children born on this day are called “Faschingskinder” in Germany - carnival kids. And since this event changed basically every aspect of my life, including my perception, writing and interpretation of music, I felt it to be a pretty perfect name for a solo project. Carnival also includes the idea of hiding behind a mask, which I am kind of doing in a linguistic sense when I am writing and singing in English (or when I’m writing this pseudo-international text). The kid-part of the name might give a hint to all the struggles you go through in your thirties, but I guess I better leave that to interpretation. And if this description made you laugh your ass off since it’s so cheesy, then that’s also some kind of carnival I suppose...
