You Are My Friend / Sylvester (1985) — 

Coming in at 123 beats per minute, the opening track of this continuous mix is a complete rework of Sylvester’s iconic tribute to his relationship with his backup singers Martha Wash and Izora Rhodes-Armstead (aka “The Weather Girls” and “Two Tons O' Fun”). The song's lyrics express themes of love, friendship, and loyalty, with Sylvester proclaiming his devotion to cherished companions. 

The original version (not a dance track), renowned for its energy and emotional depth, was recorded in front of a live audience at the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House in 1981.  It's considered one of the highlights of his career and remains a cherished moment in music history. The reimagined version is a complete rework that is sure to please.  

Tell Me / Razor-N-Tape (2021) —

This is a standout track characterized by its infectious groove, funky bass line, and soulful vocals. It captures the essence of classic disco while incorporating modern production techniques. It dovetails nicely with Sylvester’s “You Are My Friend”.

The reengineered piece has a fresh sound that appeals to a new generation of listeners while paying homage to the original.

Let’s Go ‘Round Again / Average White Band (1980) — 

This flashback track from Scottish funk and R&B band Average White Band conveys themes of love, reconciliation, and the desire to start anew in a relationship. Its upbeat tempo and infectious rhythm make it a favorite among funk and soul music fans, and this rendition is characterized by its catchy melody, smooth vocals, and funky groove.  

Wear It Out / Starguard (1979) — 

The final track in this mix is from DJ Pete Refreq, who works his digital layering and remixing talents on this late seventies dance track characterized by an infectious groove, catchy melody, and anthemic vocals by band members, Rochelle Runnells, Debra Anderson, and Janice Williams.

Wahine (pronounced wah-hee-neh)

Wahine–an award-winning radio show host, music blogger, interviewer, and event producer–has worn many hats since returning to the decks after a 10-year hiatus. Her comeback began with winning the Defected Croatia Mix Contest in 2019, making her international debut at the festival and reigniting her DJ career. Her appearance at the Defected festival alongside house legends and luminaries propelled her into the spotlight of the international disco and house scene, leading to her current status as a globally celebrated talent.
She co-hosts the Spin City show on MyHouseRadio.fm and is a Passion Ibiza Radio resident. She has contributed guest mixes to various platforms including NTS, Mi-House, Sinestesia Ibiza, and Disco Deviance.
Post-pandemic, Wahine ventured into music production, with her mashups charting on Hypeddit and gaining support from radio shows worldwide. She hosts events in Atlanta, including Soul Seek and her signature tropical-flavored disco event, Wahine’s Hideaway, featuring international guests like Dicky Trisco and The Funk District.
Wahine has supported renowned artists Crazy P, DJ Sneak, and DJ Disciple at events in Los Angeles, Atlanta, London, and Amsterdam. Her radio show has featured guests such as The Reflex, Aroop Roy, and YSE Saint Laur'ant.
Described as “Disco in Paradise,” her sound is sundrenched and full of tropical influences, matching her Hawaiian moniker. Funky licks are spiced with percussive jams with equal parts brains and brawn with every beat telling a story of rhythm and roots.
Trained in a dozen world dance forms, Wahine is known to spend her last track on the dancefloor in communion with her fellow dancers.
Wahine comes from proud Japanese and Filipino roots, with grandparents who played significant roles in Asian American history. Her Filipino grandfather was among the first to move to California’s Central Valley in the 1920s for economic opportunities, while her Japanese grandparents met in the Rohwer concentration camp in Arkansas. Following their marriage, her grandfather enlisted in the segregated Japanese American army unit, earning a Purple Heart with the 442nd Regimental Combat Team—the most decorated unit in the entire history of the US Military.

We’re scaling things back a bit from a monthly event to quarterly. Sometimes the less access you have to something, the more you crave it. 
The music programming will be heavy with driving rhythms and deep basslines. Everything you need to work up a sweat and elevate your consciousness. 
On opening night, you will find Chris Mercier in the booth mixing things up to lay the foundation for what’s to come - future guest artists TBA.

His legacy remains, his perfect transitions, his monolithic taste and seamless storytelling in his mixes - just perfect. Growing up in the UK, Carrie discovered her love of house music at the tender age of 14, when she started attending acid house parties. After moving to London at age 20, she became a resident DJ at the Friendly Society, a SoHo bar where she warmed up the London crowds before they went out clubbing. During her five-year residency, she also began playing at clubs and bars in Brixton, branching into soulful house and disco, having residencies at Plan B and Mass with Tim "Indulge" (an amazing mentor). She was fortunate to DJ with most of her DJ idols and favorite producers before leaving the UK for San Francisco in 2010. In SF, Carrie continues to play a combination of nu disco, classic disco, and house under the moniker CarrieOnDisco, with a singular focus on bringing joy to the dance floor. She is one of the resident DJs at the Stud.
