Huerco S. - Plonk IV [INC-015]

LPs 2002-2005

Disc 1: Let it Rain

Treating songwriting as an instinctive process, Bedoret transforms her deeply personal experiences into pure emotion. Not following any set narrative, Eyes takes the listener on a journey via their own experiences, prompting introspection through Bedoret’s hypnotic melodies. Through the album, she awakens the audience's imagination, to open up their emotional response.

Vanessa began her classical training at age 6 and on completion at 18 she embraced the thrill of playing guitar in punk bands, and like many at the turn of adulthood, was quickly captured by the allure of the dancefloor. She also counts black metal to opera and from eurodance to IDM as inspiration. Her deep understanding of musical form elevates her experimentation to a truly unique sonic experience, one that never strays too far from her original love of classical music.

Through the lens of a life lived to it’s fullest and one that does not shy from experiencing the rawest of emotions, it’s clear that Bedoret has a nack for translating personal observations into cinematic crescendoes. The field recordings throughout only heighten this feeling adding both a grounding and other worldy sensibility. Lyrically, she allows you to peek into her private world and for a fleeting moment letting you lock eyes with hers, asking what do you see?

Taken from "cv313, Federsen - Skyspace EP (Alt/Dub)". Out November 22nd 2024. Buy here :
https://altdub.bandcamp.com/music

Echospace Detroit’s cv313 aka Stephen Hitchell joins forces with Federsen for the second instalment on the latter’s newly minted Alt Dub label with the ‘Skyspace’ EP.Over the past decade and a half San Francisco based artist Federsen has been making his mark on the dub infused techno and house sound, delivering his vintage tape delay and analogue gear driven sound via the likes of Mixcult, Greyscale, Lempuyang and Ohm Series among others. In May this year Federsen inaugurated his own Alt Dub label with a split EP from himself and Hidden Sequence, and here the story continues following the split format with more original material from himself and cv313, accompanied by both artists remixing each other to run alongside their originals across the 12’’.
cv313’s original mix of ‘Skycrossing’ opens the release and in typical Hitchell fashion treats us to eight and a half minutes of deep soundscapes, spiralling dub echoes, muted drums and a subtly unfurling feel throughout. Federsen’s ‘Dub’ remix of ‘Skycrossing’ then follows, offering a more refined and reduced feel with subby pulsations and crisp drums intertwined with dubby fragments of the original tracks.
On the flip-side Federsen’s original ‘Skyway’ leads, employing a sturdy rhythm section with nuanced dub echoes and rumbling low-end swells. To conclude the release cv313 offers up his ‘Dub’ interpretation of ‘Skyway’, stamping his mark on things with phasing atmospherics, intricate oscillations and fluttering percussion.

There are certain expectations attached to video game music. Whether it's the innovative low-bitrate compositions that accompanied early cartridge-based capers, piped through over-active sound chips directly into millennial memory banks, or the lavish, CD-quality orchestrations that arrived soon after, game music has rapidly evolved into a language crammed with its own distinct grammar. On his second solo album, composer and performer Patrick Belaga uses that vernacular to wrestle himself from the constraints of the humdrum musical narrative. He conceived 'Solar Calf' as the soundtrack to his own playable environment, a vivid multi-dimensional space that actively supplants most albums' expected beginning-to end storyline. Just like an open world game, 'Solar Calf' can be navigated by moving from zone to zone: from wide, verdant landscapes to tense, high-contrast interior spaces via the memorable interstitial areas where very little happens, but everything feels as if it's charged with meaning.

Opener 'Axis' prepares listeners with its blocky piano phrases that Belaga underpins with unsettling resonances, growls and ASMR scratches; there’s something going on in the background, but exactly what that might be isn't revealed.
