Marseille's Loïc Bodjollé started out making classic Chicago house as Donarra. As good as it was, he has really found his voice as @cardinalandnun. It's a project at the opposite end of the musical spectrum - a place where dreamy grooves and imagined utopias have been replaced by a much more biting reality. Deranged vocals, tortured guitars and punk synths drag you into a world of raw and visceral sound that has found a perfect home on L.I.E.S.  Back in March, Ron Morelli's label put out Bodjollé's Dancing In Evil album, a gothic collection of EDM, industrial and electro from the dark side. 

This week's no holds barred mix takes you right back to the same place in an instant. Clunking factory automation, caustic drones and heavily distorted drum machines lend the mix a sense of architecture that traps you at the centre while repeatedly collapsing around you. What starts as a collage of short, wrecked textures and busted loops eventually turn into a more elongated techno sound. It is blistered, banging and brilliantly suited to the grottiest rave warehouse you could ever imagine.

Acidic Male has an interest in industrial sounds, hypnotic drum patterns and experimental vocals. Having her performer name as a revenge title, she searches to “other” herself into the position of a poetic perpetrator. Her sounds have been described as “elegant industrial”, yet in her selections she attempts to showcase her love for genre-wide experimentalism.

A talented and unique producer, Acidic Male has been gaining recent attention for all the right reasons. A strong EP on Dead channel accompanied by a string of self released work, she is winning the ears of DJ's and labels far and wide. Look out for her upcoming record on Drug Cvltvres New York Haunted imprint. You can catch Acidic Male in the flesh at Conflux Festival this year.

El hecho de que el b2b sea constitutivo e indisociable de este dúo le dota a sus apariciones de una versatilidad cohesionada. Fieles a la línea que hermana acid house y techno con naturalismo sin escindirlos, este set nos trae unas mántricas y memorables voces que corean que no hay distancia entre nosotros y varios tracks que incluyen samples vocales de divas femeninas que ensalzan sus orígenes  queer y los actualizan. Se destaca un breve momento breakbeat UK que dinamiza su estilo, así como también el momento de clímax casi al final declarando su filiación al sonido belga de los primeros noventas vía R&S. Promediando el cierre, el título de una de sus producciones, Club de la locura, nos sirve para especular sobre su estrategia -icónica- a la hora de construir el set: lo brillante y la euforia encuentran siempre su revés en un sombrío cuatro por cuatro.

Mayss did not have much to say and I’m still redacting my graduation ceremony speech that took place two weeks ago thus I’ll keep it short. Mayss has a big heart and I like crossing her in the streets cuz she radiates hope despite we both living in a city where dreams come to die lol. So if in 2022 Mayss still finds love and inspiration in the art then i'll act accordingly and continue to find  love and inspiration in the arts. Other than that it is a pretty dope mix; listened  to it on repeat while re-potting the tomatoes in the garden; I do hope  they felt the cosmic frequencies of the mix while I handled them and they’ll thrive and become stallion tomatoes cuz I already invited her over to taste the harvest in 8-to-10 weeks. Today it’s also summer solstice and indigenous day so tune-in to the mix an honour ur place in the universe I’d say.

Has Argentina become the land that manufactures great electronic music and footballers? We’d say yesss.
Mystery Friend is one half of Romance Layers along with his partner Gala; the Buenos Aires power duo whose music has been creeping into our ears for some time now. First spotted during a live performance for the iconic Nation Imprint festivities, we needed to know more about them.

At 23 year of age, Mystery Friend works his machines in ways that transport the listener back to the golden era of Chicago house  ’til you come to the realization that it’s fresh, out-of-the oven music. No re-inventing of the wheel necessary here; mystery friend simply makes modern house music done right. Catchy spanish lyrics add extra fuel to the mix and leave you wondering why it took so long for a latin cat to tap into this realm.


Mystery friend put out an EP recently and is fire. Don’t be shy to take a listen and share the love.
