Daniel, an author, employs a new gardener, Sam, a sad and lonely character who has suffered a few knocks on the journey of life. The discovery of Knotweed in Daniel's garden leads to an invitation for Sam to stay for several extra days to remove the offending plant. Sparks ignite between the two men and more gets plowed than just the garden. 

Their relationship deepens as Daniel shines a light into all the dark and damp corners of Sam's life and Sam attempts to show Daniel that there are sometimes better ways to deal with your problems, especially those with your neighbours.

New Worlds Audiobook Sample

The story Juxtaposition by Alp Mortal was written to highlight the alarming upward trend in the number of new HIV+ cases being reported in London - a safe sex fable, if you will. However, the story was not written to demonise unsafe sexual practices, merely to highlight the known risks. Whether an individual practices safe sex or not, it is a personal responsibility; the story only seeks to remind us all of the potential dire consequences.

In Juxtaposition, Emile is drawn to Ben like a moth to the flame. An attraction that has fatal consequences for the young and naive Emile.

The plan was to make a book trailer for the story, and the search began for a piece of original video-based artwork to use in the project. That search led us to Eulogy Media and Hal Sinden.

We needed music and we found a piece called 'Boat Floating', composed by Puddle of Infinity [sourced from the Youtube audio library of copywrite free music].

We also needed a voice to narrate the piece. We had worked with Roy Allen on the short film Tonight It's You, so we had no hesitation in inviting Roy to be our narrator.

The script for the book trailer morphed into something very different to that which we had planned - so now we have a piece of digital art based on words+music +images, which is, we think, a lot more powerful than the book trailer that we had first envisaged. Juxtaposition - an abstraction still stands as a book trailer - the words spoken by Roy are taken from the story - but in collaborating with Roy and Hal, we believe we have discovered something entirely original in the mix.

My heart melts for him as moth craves flame.
The night, so lonely now,
leaves me vanquished and broken 'til dawn.
I pluck a memory from the air like a petal from the bloom of peony perfection and hold it ‘gainst my breast.
Imbibed of a sorrowful winter’s hoary breath, my heart is rapacious cold.
Hell would be my preferred reality.
Eschewing reason, embracing insanity; t’was no choice exercised of free will.
Love is no more certain than where the smithy’s hammer falls.
Love; the planished surface of a medicine bowl. Every dimple, evidence of the craft; not so blind; not so random. I am well; love makes me sick.
The smithy is no fool; he does not strike his thumb, does he? Not he, adorned by blood blisters and contusions of hopeless fools.
Cannot be true that love was so barren that I taste only ash; I remember the thunder roll between our thighs; a refuge from confusing rain.
Our love was bold; red like the wound. Our love was wise; sagacious as plums that ripen only in the act of picking, else held in stasis ‘til observed.
Our love was delectable, like scent floating in the breeze.
Our love was fervid; a naked prophet, possessed and revered.
We, but acolytes of beauteous truth; seekers not yet believers; pedestrians and passengers; mere spawn; embryonic demons with one horn. Unformed fruit; a question mark for a cock.
Love him? I did; swear it was true. Worms may eat my brain but thought is undiminished and emotions hunger for marrow; I swell in servitude of the gift.
The deserving man craves the least; the undeserving man, the most; I, now, the fulcrum of the scales; craving more makes me ugly; desiring less, angelic.

Fly high above the shore to soar in exaltation of St Catherine's virginity;
the lonely queen whom Wihtgar failed to win.
To brew dull autumn’s soil takes a song as light and wide and fast as Wihtgar’s sword.
Tell me if you dare to be somebody; the pirate beneath and the priest above plot vainly but all soft, sweet scattering beetles doth shine in their eyes.
Dawn’s hoary breath frosts the lenses.

Lament Of The Adept 2020

Release is a prose poem from the story 'Cooling Off Period'. It is the summation of one man's memories of a time when life was simpler and love was less complicated. In a way it is catharsis - after the words are spoken, he is released from the past, and able to face the future.

The words were written by Alp Mortal, spoken by Hal Sinden, and the music, which is titled 'Wistful Harp', was written by Andrew Huang.

From the story 'Archie & Tom'

After years of tolerating his wife's lies and deceit, Tom finally gives Jess her marching orders. The event coincides with a weekend visit from Archie, Tom's lifelong, gay friend. The weekend takes on a very different complexion as Tom begins to face up to the truth of his sexuality and admit to his feelings for Archie.

The words of the poem come at the point at which Tom decides that he loves Archie, and admits it to himself before telling Archie how he feels.
