The Hokkaido-born musician Noah has changed her constantly seen her sound evolving since the release of her 2015 album Sivutie. While she described it as "a sonic vision of a daydream scene,” 2019’s Thirty contained a mysterious, vapor-wave-like atmosphere that functioned as a gateway to Tokyo’s urban world. While also incorporating the delicious minimalism of 80's Hong Kong pop, Noah finally realized what she really wanted to express in the last few years.

Her rebellion against tradition/authority and her awareness of deep emotions like anger and sadness powered the creation of fascinating collection of songs. The EP featured a varied palette of sounds such as classical instruments like harp and strings, cut-up piano shreds, simple breakbeats, and four on the floor rhythms, creating an admirable balance of gothic and solemnity. Through her music, she was able to create a sightline into her unique worldview that is desolate yet, elegant. The poetry and choruses used in Noah's music open the door to other worlds, culminating in a sound that is both shimmering and elegant.

“Butterfly Case” is Cuushe’s brand new breath-taking 2nd full length album, coming four years after her beautiful debut “Red Rocket Telepathy” and the subsequent “Girl You Know That I Am Here But The Dream” EP.

While Cuushe’s debut album put more focus on field recordings and found sounds, in “Butterfly Case”, you can see her moving graciously from her dreams into reality, expressing herself with delicate analog tape, distorted synths, drum machines, looped guitars and her signature feathery vocals. This wonderful album is co-produced by flau label mastermind aus, with Geskia at the mastering helm. These astonishing new songs allow us see a new vision, an imagination from Cuushe that we’ve never seen before.


The balearic guitar-house track “I Love You”, which is one of the most popular tracks from the album, has already been receiving raving reviews from the press both in Japan and overseas, while the ambient-ish R&B take in “Hanabi” is a wonderful reminiscent of Cocteau Twins & early 4AD meet soul music. Tokyo siren @Cuushe returns with Night Lines, her first release for Cascine and fourth for Japan's flau label. Night Lines is presented as a noir storybook, unfolding along four tracks to expose a haunting soundscape, complete with bad guys, funeral processions and skyscraper-sized floral arrangements. The lyrics were penned by Cuushe with underlying productions composed by aus. Many sounds were sourced from films, animations and field recordings, with designs of obscuring timelines and the perception of reality.
