Some people are born Changemakers, others grow into that role through formative life experiences. Some Changemakers are highly visible, and others feel more comfortable making an impact behind the scenes. Whether they would define themselves as Changemakers is less important than the impact they have on the world. This podcast attempts to give more of a 360-degree view of those Changemakers who—through method or might—fight for justice, fairness and equity across both our country, and our world. 

Today’s guest is Humaira Ghilzai, a resident of San Francisco who was born and raised in Kabul, Afghanistan. Humaira and her family fled Afghanistan and became one of many nameless refugees escaping the Russian invasion in the early 1970s. After challenging teenage years adjusting to life in the US, Humaira graduated at the top of her class in high school and went on to earn a B.A. in International Marketing. And although she settled into the calmness of an international career working for high tech giants such as Sun Microsystems, she was shaken out of that lull by the events of 9/11, along with some nudging by her father. This set off a chain of events that have turned her attention towards positive causes throughout the world.
