Pete played a solo set opening for John Murry in Brighton, January 2013. 

As well as alternate readings of older recordings, like a country shuffle 'Day's Stay longer' it was also one of the earliest opportunities for audiences to hear 'Ironbridge', 'Lady Hill' and 'This Ring' that would later be recorded for the PM album.

The Danny George Wilson reference toward the end of the set came about because Danny was the original support booked for the show and had to cancel at the last minute.

Cheap Streaks From A Bottle

This track was originally an i- phone reference demo that I passed along to my new NW6 neighbour, Rami  to work his undeniable magic in between his own recording sessions. The song itself came about trying to work my way through a writers block following the hard slog that was pulling the material together for 'Leo' .. when I first started writing again it felt like 'a little bit of something, that might just be a little bit of me, that needs a little bit of something to try to set it free' .. it's been let loose now.. enjoy.

One Night Too Long

These recordings are a complete set of reference demos I sent to the band pretty much as as they were written. 
I’m usually pretty sceptical of projects like this, and acknowledge those out there who might feel the same way? However, we are taking the decision to make them available purely as a disposable companion piece for anyone who enjoyed ‘Colours Simple’ and have a passing interested in those songs origins.
POETS CORNER
It’s unfortunate that this particular recording - which naturally had to open the sequence - requires the biggest leap of faith from anyone that fears this nothing more than a vanity project. Much of what ‘Poets Corner’ would become was already in place, structurally, if not sonically, just waiting to be handed over to Andy, Tim and Jim to work their magic.
THESE THREE CITIES
Subtle lyric changes between this and the album version are all for the better. I clearly knew what we wanted to say… we just needed a bit more finessing to figure out how best to say it. 
ROLL DAMNATION ROLL
This song clearly ended up going places I didn't immediately envision. I remember the band running versions similar to this in rehearsals.
(JESUS CHRIST TOMORROW MORNING) DO I STILL HAVE TO FEEL THIS WAY?
I actually wrote this not long after we recorded ‘Some Tunes for Charlie Spencer’ in 2007. I found it in an old note book when I started writing ‘Colours Simple’ and gave it a complete overhaul of the lyric and added a couple of key changes. It’s pretty clear that my ability to play and sing those key changes was some way off yet. At the end you can hear me throw down my plectrum and pick up a drink. 
FICTION WRITER
This was the first song I wrote for ‘Colours Simple’ and went through a couple of crucial structural changes along the way to give us the outro section on the album recording.
A HOLE IN HEAVENS FLOOR (CHEAP STREAKS FROM A BOTTLE)
This is so far from removed from the recorded version that it doesn't even have that title yet. The signature of this song, in its more familiar form, is the brass, but truth be told, it was top of my list of songs to be dumped from the project until Jim carved out the riff that we ultimately built the brass around, and the rest, as they say…….
TSAWTBA (TBAWTGWB)
Another old song, this one written during ‘PM’ but discarded early in that process. No re- writes, no re- imagining, just a better fit for ‘Colours Simple’. 
HIGH ROLLERS
You can hear a watch ticking throughout this recording. I also used different chord voicings than on the record – I don’t recall why, but it denied the ‘Colours Simple’ version a couple of nice ‘bluesy’ asides.
A MENTION IN DISPATCHES
This was written around a riff and outline Jim sent me…. one that I’m playing unbelievably badly on the recording, but not as bad as I’m singing the ‘Ooh, ooh’ refrains. Somewhere in the process Andy & Tim considerably - and mercifully - slowed things down. 
ANOTHER TOYTOWN MORNING
I have no recollection where, or when we lost the ‘dead dog’ and the ‘depressed comedian’ and inherited ‘Patsy Cline’ and a bottle of good red… but I’m sure Tennessee Williams would approve? I know I do. I can now reveal that the ‘very famous fiddle player’ passed away, just a month or so ago.
