This event brings a long awaited return to Manchester for Overlook (UVB-76 /Droogs /Rupture), a Manchester debut for Blood Trust (CNVX / Digital Red), a live jungle set from IDA champion turntablist Statik and support from CODE resident selector Cash Bailey..

Witness one of the meanest crews, Rupture London's DJ Mantra and Double O, taking over this episode of Bass Music.

Mantra and Double O have both been consistently sharing their artistic vision within drum&bass and jungle scenes for many years, and since their first forays in Shoreditch in the early 2000s, the name Rupture has blossomed into one of the most revered names in jungle music.

Bass Music w/ The Untouchables, DJ Mantra & Double O - 8th March 2023

From 1994-1997 Fabio hosted a seminal radio show on Kiss FM. He would alternate each show with Grooverider and it was the first time jungle was played on legal radio. It was essential listening for music that wouldn't normally get played out, or even heard again! These shows were a window into another world and fresh 90-minute TDKs on hot standby was standard procedure. 

For the second hour of the show, Fabio would announce "The Jazzstep coming up next...", and after a few months it became "The Legendary Jazzstep..." - this was big!

The music was jazz-influenced and driven by funk breaks, which tended to be quite loose with the patterns. It was a golden era before things got stripped back to more surgical timings seen with liquid, it also made the sound feel more organic and musical.

This mix attempts to recreate the feeling of these shows with dreamy sax, epic keyboard solos, cool double bass and the funkiest of breakbeat grooves. Featuring music from Carlito, Subject 13, Hidden Agenda, Primary Motive and early Creative Source - some of the finest drum and bass ever made.

It was recorded from a mixture of both vinyl and digital, and it wouldn't be right for the Jazzstep show if there wasn't a couple of dubplates in there as well: a very jazzy something forthcoming on Make or Break from Deeptropix, and an unreleased collab track from Sekl @sekldnb and Rough Territory @Rough-Territory

Even during the peak era of the jungle, this music was considered quite a niche sound, but Fabio was a pioneer with a true passion and love for the music. Big respects to Fabio for doing his own thing and giving the music a platform for all to appreciate.

Coming June 2023: @BasicRhythm x Blood Trust - Blood Rhythm EP. This innovative collaboration between electronic musician Basic Rhythm (Anthoney J Hart) and rising star Blood Trust (Quinn Smith) features four tracks of dark, experimental drum and bass, inspired by the late 1990s.

Basic Rhythm, known for his London underground dance music roots, blends UK dance music heritage with contemporary sounds. Blood Trust, on the other hand, transcends genre boundaries, focusing on atmospheric narratives to challenge conventional electronic music perceptions.

The "Blood Rhythm EP" showcases the sweet spot between Basic Rhythm's raw dance floor approach and Blood Trust's atmospheric sound. Expect a powerful, dark, and immersive journey back to the golden age of drum and bass, while still exploring new sonic territories.
