you might consider moving into the chord progression around here. I love the groove you're adding, but don't be afraid to add some more of the original. check the youtube link around 1:49 for the progression and subsequent string falls.

It might be cool to build up the arrange as it is, but then bust out into the chorus at 2:59. This will also add a bit of musical dynamic from the strings. The pizzicato in the original is pretty awesome.
