The Avenue Red Podcast reaches double figures with an instalment from Malta-based DJ, Producer and label boss Owen Jay. His Batti Batti imprint began as a digital label in 2009 with a dozen releases before it developed into a vinyl label in 2012. It's a project he has built from the ground up and the quality of output has been exceptional from the start, pushing a discerning style of house music full of groove and melody and a strong penchant for warm analogue sounds.

As a producer, Owen has EP's out on a range of labels including Underground Quality, Minuendo and Moods & Grooves as well as his own label. As a DJ he has played all over the shop and has gigs upcoming at Panorama Bar in Berlin for an Underground Quality label party (28-02-2014) and also at Siroco in Madrid (21-03-2014). This mix sums up exactly how he works it on the 1's and 2's. Take a listen!

Embracing Midgar's story-tale approach, 'Da Nao Tian Gong' (also known as 'Havoc in Heaven') stands as Polygonia's latest four-track EP. Lindsey Wang draws direct influence from a beloved childhood cartoon, itself inspired by the ancient Chinese legend 'Journey to the West' and the iconic character Sun Wukong. Imagine a childhood Saturday morning cartoon but with its sugary soundtrack remixed by a cyberpunk DJ who stumbled upon ancient Chinese legends. That's the whirlwind you're stepping into with 'Da Nao Tian Gong', Polygonia's latest four-track techno wanderlust.

Lindsey Wang, the mastermind behind the magic, taps into the mythical essence of Sun Wukong, the Monkey King himself. Each track is a sculpture of his legend: 'Jindou Yun' propels you through the sky on his cloud, leaving gravity in the dust. 'Shen Wai Shenfa' casts a spell with tribal rhythms, mimicking his magical hair. 'Ruyi Jingu Bang' resonates with the earth-shaking power of his staff, while our premiere for today 'Disha Shu' bursts into a kaleidoscope of sound, mirroring his 72 transformations.

Kerstin Saidykhan a.k.a. Sai has been a music nerd since her youth, influenced by styles like postpunk, dark wave, ska, jungle, DnB, and techno. Two trips to Jamaica in the late ’90s deepened her passion for dancehall and sound system culture, with the heavy basslines of dub and raggamuffin having a lasting impact on her. After the pandemic she established the podcast series “Moments Of Light And Darkness” and just began to release mixes by herself and after a certain time presenting guest mixes, too. The whole development since then was very organic where one thing leads to the other without a certain goal. There are plans to establish a yearly live event. To promote this Sai has built the MLD Compilation via an open call where producers could contribute with a track but stay anonymous. Sai loves to create deep atmospheric mixes around dub techno influenced sounds, combining the classics from earlier days with the current releases, often seasoned with the dub reggae vibes, some broken beats, ambient non beat or other experimental electronic stuff - sometimes darker, sometimes lighter. At the end it's all about moods and feelings from moment to moment what flows into the present time. According to that she calls herself Sai – MLD. MLD is the short form for Moments of Light & Darkness, related to a diverse spectrum in many ways.

This set brings together about three quarters of the tracks from the wonderful MLD compilation.  Given time contraints I couldnt include all, but i feel this highlights a diversity of sounds and styles of music within the dub techno space that the compilation showcases.    Without the artists names associated (and there are many of the genre's well know producers) the focus shifts to the music alone.

The compilation previews  a live event in form of an intimate open air festival called "MLD goes live" to take place  in August 2025 near Berlin.  Many of the artists in that two part compilation will perform at this event – so I hope to see you all there!

Bruno Bleckmann – born and raised in the Rhinish brown coal district and now based
in Düsseldorf after studying German language and literature – is an up-coming
artist from a city that has already produced many electronic legends. After his first
technoid awakening experiences in the old Tresor in Berlin at Chris Liebing's
shamanistic Easter Sunday gigs, inhaling the razor-sharp rhythms of The Advent and
devoting himself to the harmonies of the epochal The Aztec Mystic project, Bruno
Bleckmann began to create his own sound art. This was followed by international
releases on Ohm Series, Vuo Records and Ausblick. As a connoisseur of literature,
Bruno Bleckmann knows how to develop a long-lasting narrative quality not only in
his own tracks, but also in his DJ sets. Go there - or go home!
