It started by chance one Summer’s day
I recognised her face

So I waited there ‘til the day broke again
And ripped apart the trees

She stumbled through,
Eyes black and blue
And God, she looked so tired
She smiled and swore it’s nothing new
But that doesn’t make it right

She kissed me then, I watched her undress
And trembled at the sight
But when I opened my eyes she was staring at the sky
And I knew she would leave again

She said wait in the dark, I’ll come for you
We’ll go across the sea
So I waited there in growing despair
‘Til the moon abandoned me

I followed her out one rainy day
Half crazed with loneliness
In shadows I stood and longingly stared
As she reached for another girl’s hand

She caught her eye
Went into her arms, and I knew that face so well
But though I’ve felt it time and again,
I was unprepared to see it in somebody else

I watched that girl as she shook in the cold Winter air
And it suddenly all became clear

I tried to hold her
But she is a ghost girl
And I fell into her world
All I wanted was her love

Ghost Girl

My kitty is dying of cancer and she's been making me crazy because she won't leave me alone and then I feel guilty for being frustrated and it's all generally awful, and today I came home and she looks like a mess and I suddenly remembered all the things that I was remembering most when I first found out, so I cried, wrote this song, recorded it on my phone the second time playing it through and shared it with all of you. Enjoy my low-fi melancholia.
