The first instalment out of the upcoming Blend Mishkin album Unity of
Opposites, Egyptian Love is a hypnotic, Arabic jazz-meets-Jamaican-ska
joint, laced with a psychedelic vibe and Andalusian modes.

Featuring no other than the talented BNC on vocals and the incredible Roots
Evolution band on the riddim, this first single perfectly sets the tone of what is
to follow.

“The brasses re-announce an Arabic theme and a soft-spoken, BNC (Jeff
Gonzales) sings plaintively. Blend Mishkin’s electronics take us into ethereal
places as we follow a seven-minute interlacing sound set. The control and
discipline of the band is evident here, the vocals do not dominate, nothing jars
us out of our dream, but we are merged, sucked into a web of sound evoking
something lost in the vast land of Egypt.”

“The Crossing” is the second single to emerge from the forthcoming Blend Mishkin & Roots Evolution album “Unity of Opposites” and it features the talented Kanun soloist Panos Dimitrakopoulos. 

When Zoe Prokopiou introduces “The Crossing” with her lonely, mystical solo, we must keep in mind that people identify Blend Mishkin and Roots Evolution with reggae music. To hear Zoe’s musical statement, we know that this band is fully committed to a new vision. We accept that and at 0:39 what do we hear? The kanun played by no less than the virtuoso Panos Dimitrakopoulos. The kanun has its roots in ancient Assyria but here it is joining the modern percussions of General Sticks and the brass of Bassment Rats and Stelios Michas Englezos. And just when we least expect it at 1:28 we hear—my, my: sweet reggae music. Blend Mishkin does not shake us out of our dream; he moves us gently, without transition, to another musical space. The arrangement and the band’s constraint ensure we hear how all of this works together. After a while, electronic dub pipes in; we see how the band has accepted so many far-flung influences.

Blend Mishkin & Roots Evolution - The Crossing

Mad One is the third single to emerge out of the long awaited Blend Mishkin album called “Unity of Opposites” which is coming out on June 10th


Blend Mishkin & Roots Evolution now bring in Barry Ashworth of Dub Pistols—and find a way to take his legendary punk sensitivities and set them to an undercurrent of reggae with mariachi style brass and, again, Eastern Mediterranean influences. The fully stated rhythmic background of brasses and Vassilis Nitsakis’s melodic bass transports us to a Brixton street, then the throaty chanting of MC Dank Meme brings us to another musical arena. Disparate elements, even different vocal styles, create an upbeat, blues-tinged cut that makes us move to a cool beat.

Blend Mishkin is a Greek musician, producer and DJ whose style incorporates Reggae, Soul and Hip Hop music.

Blend Mishkin composed and produced music for internationally renowned artists such as Tippa Irie, Screetchie Dan, Jamalski, Gappy Ranks, Skarra Mucci and Carlton Livingston to name a few and has a large collection of remix work for bands and artists like Ward21, Luciano, Dub Pistols, Mr. Williamz, Max Rubadub, Rukus, DJ Spooky and Wax Tailor.

His 2015 album Survival of the fittest (Nice Up Records) gains international popularity and also marks the birth of his Roots Evolution band featuring a cast of talented Athenian musicians. By 2020 together they have already release four albums including the latest Paint Everything White with soul singer Sugahspank and Wildfire which made it to number 23 of the best reggae albums in 2019 by Regaeville.com

His music has been blessed with rave reviews and prominent radio play from the likes of David Rodigan (BBC1Xtra), the late Andrew Weatherall (NTS), Toddla T (BBC Radio One) and Seanie B (BBC1Xtra).

While garnering international recognition Blend Mishkin with Roots Evolution and the addition of an extremely talented duet on vocals: Sugahspank! and BNC, benefit from a consistently busy live schedule throughout Greece and Europe with performances in clubs and the festival circuit.
