Keep Thinking’s fifth release welcomes both Castano & Deepfunk onto the roster.

Castano opens up proceedings with ‘French Hello’, a solid house number which flirts with a rather unmistakeable tech groove. Reverse synthesis and carefully placed filters appear throughout this melodically driven original, with a simplistic vocal that is in keeping with the feel good factor.

The remix of this work is delivered by Deepfunk, who has provided a stellar interpretation, blending a mesmerising groove that develops into a fully blown atmospheric lift off.

The second story to this release comes in the form of ’Specta’. Originally written as a back room bubbler, Castano has edited the main breakdowns of this mix to widen out the lead, which works well to provide a well deserved breather before delving back into the subtle but enchanting backdrops. 

Deepfunk has turned ‘Specta’ into a fully blown late night journey, offering a beautiful mix of crescendos and hypnotic arpeggiated synths, the result of which provides a mixture of naturally refreshing, driven leads, rounding off the release in style.

Producer Petar Dundov runs his own ‘Neumatik’ studio in Zagreb where he works as a sound engineer as well as producing his own take on techno, house and electronica. The new album ‘Ideas From The Pond’ is his most accomplished work to date and features beautifully layered techno, hypnotic rhythms and shimmering melodies that make this a real landmark release for the Croatian DJ/producer. 

To Dundov, “techno is music that precedes movement. It is dance music, solid enough to carry emotions through the dance floor and abstract enough to be a template forever”. And indeed his breathtaking productions embody this ethos, serving the inherent function of making your body pulse spontaneously while also challenging your brain with its complex melodies and slow-burning, hypnotic progressions.

Although maybe the word “techno” doesn’t give enough detail about his style, it’s probably the nearest ballpark to whose principles his music adheres – and he is keen to expand the horizons of what people know and expect of the genre. But it’s that sense of his tracks being alive, forever evolving and expanding and increasing in intensity, which gives his music its unique sound and has seen his work crossover into a myriad of different areas of the global electronic music scene. The last three years have seen his mind-bending album “Escapements” take the scene by storm with its intricate, ever-changing melodies.

Taking the listener from the club to a tripped out dreamscape, his new album ‘Ideas From The Pond’ brings musicality back to techno and shows that minimal doesn’t need to be one-dimensional. Driving, thrilling and emotionally charged ‘Ideas From The Pond’ is set to cross the techno/house/trance divide and become one of the essential electronic albums of 2012.

Alex Dimou makes a welcome debut on Crosstown Rebels with What Keeps You There with two great remixes from Cevin Fisher and Avidus.

The EP begins with the enchanting nature of What Keeps You There. A prominent piano roll opens proceedings, with Vili’s moving vocals soon introduced over a chugging bassline. Cevin Fisher’s remix of the title track comes next. A more driving minimal house take on the lead record, subtle kicks converge on rustling percussion, before Vili’s emotive vocals once again form a poignantly heartfelt production. Avidus provide a dance floor-ready rework of the original, that features a mechanical sounding synth and an echoing, electric breakdown, before the EP is rounded off with Let It Be Known, a four-to-the-floor, pumping house cut made up of strong kicks and driving pads.

Alex Dimou is a producer, DJ and remixer whose career has seen him perform all around the global circuit. As a remixer, he has collaborated with the likes of Maya Jane Coles and M.A.N.D.Y, whilst his own releases have found a home on Jamie Jones’ Hottrax as well as renowned Berlin imprint Get Physical Music. Legendary American producer Cevin Fisher has been releasing standout records since 1995, achieving five entries in the UK singles chart between 1998 and 2001. German duo Avidus are regulars on Crosstown Rebels, and continue to run their own imprint Empore Music, which was launched in 2015.
