It spits, grinds, breathes, jingles and releases little sounds of voices. It could be seen as cerebral of demonstrative, but no: even if it’s sometimes “experimental”, there’s no overplay of word of gesture and we can just let ourselves be swallowed up in his world of grown-up children. A world that retains a little room for humour: when he isn’t carried away by the creation of a sound that’s even crazier than the others, he takes time to mention the availability of Castus underwear at the merchandise stand, or pay homage to animals, and finally says goodbye to the audience standing upright on his chair.

Cedric Castus sends us his postcards of sound. He produces a thousand and one objects (water bottle, handheld radio...) from his box of tricks that colour the equally joyful and melancholic textures of his instrumental pieces.
Loops and effect pedals elevated with the addition of tiny sounds and big ideas, between energetic, swirling pop and intelligent, experimental rock, both a discreet homage and a shy declaration of love for Tortoise.

Until now, the discrete and retiring Cedric Castus has always used his inspiration in the service of collective projects such as the groups on the roster of the Brussels label Matamore ( V.O., Soy Un Caballo). Now the Brussels native has decided to set out as a solo artist. He has just released his first album, Madona, a post-modern instrumental record made up of ten tracks. The sound of this album remains free of sophisticated frills and distills emotions using simple and creative guitar parts. Castus also loves to make sound using a plethora of, often bizarre, gadgets, such as water bottles, a cappuccino whip or a plastic duck. From these objects he creates a surprising musicality, that combines perfectly with his guitar riffs.
