One of my two submissions to the <a href="http://homestuckgaiden.bandcamp.com/album/land-of-fans-and-music-unofficial-album">Land of Fans and Music album</a>, an unofficial compilation of fanmusic created within the Homestuck fandom. The other submission was <a href="http://soundcloud.com/konec0/beginnings">Beginnings -Press Start to Play-</a>.

A techno dance remix of MeGaLoVania which I went overboard on. As a result, I ended up working in 20 melodies from Homestuck music. 

This is probably my most well-known and well-liked song to date.

Contains partial remixes of songs by Toby "Radiation" Fox, Joren "Tensei" de Bruin, Michael Guy Bowman, George Buzinkai, Alexander Rosetti, Curt Blakeslee, Clark "Plazmataz" Powell, Robert J! Lake, Mark Hadley, and Malcolm Brown. The list of songs is too long to be listed here, unfortunately, so people get to have fun figuring it out.

One of my two submissions to the <a href="http://homestuckgaiden.bandcamp.com/album/land-of-fans-and-music-unofficial-album">Land of Fans and Music album</a>, an unofficial compilation of fanmusic created within the Homestuck fandom. The other submission was <a href="http://soundcloud.com/konec0/megadancevania">MeGaDanceVaNia</a>.

This was not only the first track on the album, but really the only track that was specifically composed for the album. Or remixed, rather. The initiator of the project, OJ, requested for a remix to be done of MK_97's "Homestuck Title Screen," while incorporating more motifs from the comic. I took up that request, and churned this out.

This song was basically a nostalgia bomb for me; I just had to think back to the days of playing SNES-era RPGs, and what I thought a title screen tune should sound like. Chrono Trigger's <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F__DAx9NYsg">title screen tune</a>, in particular, was a big influence, as was the simple "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g25QXnhVijQ">Dearly Beloved</a>" from Kingdom Hearts. The chiptune aesthetic certainly helped!

Through the Seventh Gate ~Land of Wind and Shade~ is the first track from the <a href="http://soundcloud.com/konec0/sets/7th-gate-project">7th Gate Project</a>.

Although many seem to prefer <a href="http://soundcloud.com/konec0/through-the-seventh-gate-lofaf">Land of Frost and Frogs</a> more, this is my personal favorite from the set. For one, it strays furthest from the source material. For another, I experimented much more heavily with dynamic changes in this song, and I'm honestly quite happy with the outcome!

Through the Seventh Gate ~Land of Heat and Clockwork~ is the second track from the <a href="http://soundcloud.com/konec0/sets/7th-gate-project">7th Gate Project</a>.

This song was heavily inspired by the music of the Castlevania series. More specifically, I tried to emulate the style of one particular song - "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyXRV7wkeyo">An Empty Tome</a>," from Order of Ecclesia. I think it's possibly one of my favorite songs from the series!

Through the Seventh Gate ~Land of Light and Rain~ is the third track from the <a href="http://soundcloud.com/konec0/sets/7th-gate-project">7th Gate Project</a>.

Slow songs are definitely not my forte. As such, Land of Light and Rain was the hardest of the four songs for me. I tried using sounds such as the bowed waterphone to create an unsettling atmosphere, but I think the song still ended up sounding too relaxed and even a little sluggish.

Slow songs are definitely something I have to improve on.

Through the Seventh Gate ~Land of Frost and Frogs~ is the fourth and last track from the <a href="http://soundcloud.com/konec0/sets/7th-gate-project">7th Gate Project</a>.

I really enjoyed pulling the sudden switch from what was essentially house-inspired electronica to orchestral. I've used several more times since, such as in <a href="http://soundcloud.com/konec0/vodka-mutiny">Vodka Mutiny</a> or <a href="http://soundcloud.com/konec0/jackpot-birthday-bash-mix">Jackpot (Birthday Bash Mix)</a>. I'm not personally fond of the idea of pigeonholing songs into genres, so making this song was a real treat for me; I like to think of it as kind of genre-fluid, and that's interesting to me.

The first of my three entries to the Homestuck Music Contest, the other two being <a href="http://soundcloud.com/konec0/vodka-mutiny">Vodka Mutiny</a> and <a href="http://soundcloud.com/konec0/daywalker-rise">Daywalker ~Rise~</a>.

This didn't get in, even though I felt that it was my strongest contender. I hoped that it could serve as the "Showtime" for the Alpha kids, and modelled it specifically after "Showtime" and "Dissension," with a recognizable motif repeated in different styles.

Fun fact: I came up with the last 1 minute of the song or so first; I got the idea to use punchy snares to simulate Jake shooting everywhere. I quite like the result!

This one actually got in! It can be found on <a href="http://homestuck.bandcamp.com/album/colours-and-mayhem-universe-b">coloUrs and mayhem: Universe B</a>, the second of two albums released as a result of the contest.

I love pulling genre bait-and-switch and I totally do the same going from dance music to orchestral thing I did in "<a href="http://soundcloud.com/konec0/through-the-seventh-gate-lofaf">Land of Frost and Frogs</a>". This one has added chiptune flavor, though. And portamento to simulate drunken hiccups!

Also: this actually isn't the album version. I updated it because the album version was actually over-compressed; I'm still not sure how I let that pass...

Vodka Mutiny

The last of my three entries to the Homestuck Music Contest, the other two being <a href="http://soundcloud.com/konec0/guns-blazing">Guns Blazing</a> and <a href="http://soundcloud.com/konec0/vodka-mutiny">Vodka Mutiny</a>.

A song for Kanaya, this song is - in my opinion - the weakest contender of the lot. Daywalker nonetheless marks my first attempt at using real audio in a song - I recorded the flute performance myself. Unfortunately, my playing, recording, and production are definitely not up to snuff, honestly. Given that it was recorded with a terrible laptop mic, with a player who hadn't played in a long while (me), I suppose that was honestly no surprise.

However, I love both the harp and flute melodies in this song. It was a blast to play, and I'd definitely think about using them again at some point in the future.

Daywalker ~Rise~

This was done for Mark Nabors' birthday! He is a good friend and an awesome musician.

Some time back he made <a href="http://shadolith.tumblr.com/post/18431481905/this-is-a-strife-theme-for-roxy-a-collaboration">this song</a> for the Homestuck Music Contest, but it didn't get it. So I took the liberty of remixing it for his birthday! It was originally a Roxy Lalonde strife theme; I guess it's now a Mark Nabors strife theme? Or Birthday BASH theme, if you will. Well, that's up to him to decide.
