The biggest moment yet for the voice synonymous with so many modern-day drum and bass anthems, the ever-enthralling Emily Makis teams up with Dux N Bass, T-Man, and Dread MC on Shogun Audio this March on the infectious sounds of 'My Type'. 

Hot off the back of winning the 'Best Vocalist' award at the Drum & Bass Awards and 'Best Track' at the Youth Music Awards, 2023 also saw Emily Makis rack up over 25 million streams on her anthem 'Phoneline' with Pola & Bryson and co-write Becky Hill and Chase & Status' massive hit 'Disconnect', which rose to #6 in the UK Charts. 

Having now cemented herself of the most recognisable voices in the UK underground scene, 'My Type' sees Emily up the levels once again, with this latest release intertwining elements of D&B and jungle with that iconic 00's R&B sound. Coming in hot with their first collaboration since 2020's multi-million streaming 'Buttons', Emily Makis & Deadline return to Elevate Records with their 2024 re-imagining of Adina Howard's 'Freak Like Me'.  

Having been heavily supported by the likes of Friction, K Motionz, Kanine, Charlie Tee, Harriet Jaxxon, DJ Marky, goddard, and so many more, 'Freak Like Me' has been blowing the roof off some of the biggest raves and festivals over the past twelve months, becoming one of the D&B scenes most highly-requested dancefloor smashers in the process. This track has also been building massive hype online and was named BBC Radio 1's 'Drop Of The Week' earlier this summer. It's safe to say the demand for this next Emily Makis & Deadline collaboration is through the roof!  

2024 has already established itself as a huge year for Emily Makis. Following on from her massive hit 'My Type', her recent collaboration with Wilkinson on 'Break It Down', and securing her first platinum co-write on Becky Hill and Chase & Status' 'Disconnect', 'Freak Like Me' sees Emily Makis continue to cement her spot as one of the most recognisable voices in the UK underground scene.  

Now re-designed for a whole new generation, Emily Makis' signature powerful and expressive vocal breathes a new lease of life into this classic, fused with Deadline's gritty instrumental built for the dancefloor.

Reprising his 2023 debut album ‘Weather The Storm’, legendary MC, Visionobi is back, teaming up with a slew of producers to deliver the introspective ‘Open Book’ EP. Across the 4 chapters contained in this volume, Visionobi displays the different strings to his lyrical bow across productions ranging from light to dark, resulting in a story that you’ll find yourself reading again and again. 
‘Oculus’ lurches into life with a sparse but suggestive bass laden intro. Visionobi’s familiar wordplay comes to the fore very early and serves as a stark reminder of the work that goes into his bars. The drop brings more variation to the bassline and warped guttural tones to flank the minimalist but well-crafted drums. The half time sections throughout the track give more space for the production to shine through and provides a strong platform for Visionobi to showcase his visionary writing and expansive vocabulary.

On ‘Self Love’ Visionobi laces thought-provoking lyrics with a vulnerability and eloquence that match his eclectic style. Swerving the traditional ‘song’ format, he opts for an onslaught of bars, bearing an intimate angle of self-reflection and affirmation. Flying in the face of the algorithm, this track is a stark contrast to chapter one, proving Visionobi’s versatility as a writer & performer.

The intro for ‘Pyromancer’ is laden with muted guitar licks and distant drums before the aural arsonist that is Visionobi ignites another lyrical lightsource. The lyricism is matched by a suitably flammable track with vintage In:Most atmospheres and a gnarly Vektah-esque bassline to sit alongside the snappy drums. This track is sure to set both nightclub sound systems and headphones alight.

Finally, the title track ‘Open Book’ features production from longtime friend Phil Robinson, better known as his musical alter-ego Philth. After collaborating twice on ‘Weather the Storm’ the pair are clearly still on the same page when it comes to delivering a strong closing act to the masterpiece.

Landing in all good stores on the 29th of November. Bookmark the date, stop doom-scrolling and open a book, with this ludicrously lyrical EP.
