Nadsat returns to his own Catch Recordings with a single that comes with remixes from label friends nwo and Ste Roberts.

Nadsat is a quietly assured artist with an adventurous and accomplished sound. He has long been entrenched in electronic music and draws on those experiences when in the studio and DJ booth. He has held various residencies across the world and makes everything from acid to techno, rave to breaks.

Written while the world was in the midst of pandemic chaos, this new single was written with rave unity in mind. The superb 'Drum Memory' has raw, driving and consistent drums with a heart aching vocal adding emotive nostalgia and a nod to the 90’s rave scene. The soft pads add warmth and soul and field recordings make up the deft percussion and bring an all-important sense of humanism to the track.

UK mainstay Ste Roberts and Hypercolour head runs his own STE label. He makes no-frills, hugely effective club tracks that get played far and wide, and this remix is no different. His Tronic Drums version is a sleepy, spaced-out, and elastic cut built on bumping late-night rhythm. It's alien, futuristic, and charming all at once.
The second remix comes from fast-rising artist and Cead and Stress Records associate nwo. Already a regular at Leeds' finest parties and Catch's own showcases, he layers in spaced-out pads, buoyant jungle breaks and subtle throwback rave sounds to the original. It is both physically and emotionally potent.

This is another classy package of timeless electronic sounds from the Catch crew.

Nadsat - Multifaceted EP (inc Ste Roberts & nwo Remixes)

The always-cultured Catch Recordings taps into fresh new sounds from label head NADSAT plus Hardacre, Annie Errez and Leoleoleo on the new Northern Lines EP. Between them, these new school UK tastemakers explore a forward-thinking mix of acid, techno, broken beat and minimal to make for another classy EP.
First up is Hardacre, who last appeared on this label as part of a VA release in 2021. His work exists at the intersection of myriad UK-centric sounds from breaks to rave to techno, all with a futuristic twist. He runs his own self-titled label and never compromises on sound. His 'Higher Level of Communication' is a punchy mix of sizzling acid lines and pristine breakbeats. It has raw old-school energy but also artful synth craft layering in real emotion. Then comes Nadsat aka Brett Osbourne, a producer known for his meticulous attention to detail and perfect sonic placement. He brings drama and drive to richly atmospheric and timeless tracks. His 'Crash 101' is an urgent cut that hurries you along on hunched but punchy kicks. Dusty drums are backlit by a meandering synth that brings a sense of mystery to this stripped-back bit of low-key techno excellence.
Leeds's Annie Errez is one of the UK's best-kept secrets - an accomplished DJ, Mint Club mainstay and regal at Europe's most clued-up clubs as well as a producer who draws on those experiences to cook club-ready dynamite for labels like Mosaic and Strobewax. She gets deep and gritty on the intriguing 'According to Daneeka.' It's a dusty, dubbed-out afterparty head twister with freaky synth sounds scattered about the mix over chugging drum funk. Last of all is Manchester-based Leoleoleo who brings a utopian view to ethereal club bangers and pensive but uplifting rollers that have so far had support from the likes of Sasha and Optimo. Here he lays down hefty kicks in broken but funky patterns and drops optimistic synth sequences over the top. As the energy builds, string flurries add an extra

rush of dopamine as you reach for the lasers on a strobe-lit dance floor. Northern Lines is another high-quality dose of heady electronic sound.

Venter bring you the second instalment in our CatchPod series...

Venter is a new project from experienced musicians - Tomasz Bednarczyk and Tomasz Mreńca.

The first released three albums for the labels Room40 and 12k. He is also responsible for establishing label 'We Are Your Music Mate', where together with Łukasz Kobster Łazarczyk they promote Polish underground music. Tom also co-creates with Kobster Harrison Chord - a duo in which they're playing black topical house. Mrenca is a violinist who creates classical compositions, jazz, experimental and avant-garde music. He is a member and co-founder of an international group of The Frozen Vaults whose songs appear on compilations with artists such as Max Richter or Olafur Arnalds. As it would be not enough he also composes pieces for theater performances and fashion shows...

In their own words:

From Venter we get great variety in terms of both genres, because in their music there are elements of ambient, techno, house or drones, as well as atmosphere that takes the listener on an emotional roller coaster. There is also a fusion of analog and digital sounds, sampling, recording their own vocals, classical sound of the violin in the avant-garde compositions, repetition and noise. Thomas and Tom (about who is who let everyone decide for itself) in a new project manages to deftly combine the best elements and features of music created earlier.

This podcast is all about the excitement about first fresh snow and frozen red hands. It's not so much about specific genre or time period as much as about this feeling. When we created it, it was like a snowball running down the hill, getting bigger and bigger, swallowing everything inside. Pure joy.

DJ Najaora - Space Call

Engineering forward thinking electronic music. It’s an ethos that sits at the core of the UK house & techno imprint. High fidelity sonic sound and learned production sit at the forefront of the labels output. Catch Recordings latest cut delivers on those very sentiments. 

Little is known about Gioid aka Giorgi Mikeladze, his music is as minimal as his guise and notoriety. Catch are renowned these days for showcasing new and extremely talented producers and this EP picks up expertly where the last one left off. The Georgian producer channels ambient and atmospheric dub techno influenced by the Italian techno scene to pull together a quality cut of underground dub techno.

The pack kicks off with ‘Mivedi’. Alien twangs echo across subtle minimal percussion as soft kicks push through the mid frequencies, carrying the track forward. Mesmeric in nature, the opening track showcases minimal yet enchanting production creating a hypnotic rhythm that entices you from the get go. 

‘Hiding In The Midnight Train’ picks up the pace a little more. Filtered percussion showered in reverb patter around the deep dubby baseline, with soft synths and muffled vox samples pulling everything together supremely. Subtle sci-fi clicks and bleeps drop in and out as the single progresses into the latter stages, its simplicity and effortless structure.

The fourteenth release of the imprint ends with lead track ‘Variable Dimensions’, saving the best  ’til last it seems. The instant thud of the kick drum takes centre here, this one has a much chunkier club feel to it already. Sporadic hats spatter in the intro and once again ambient alien chords and percussion take over with a bubbling ‘aquatic’ bass filling the gaps in between. Progressive and mesmeric in nature all 3 singles really hone in on the nubbier side of techno with Catch once again choosing to push new wave talent and pioneering the ambient techno sound.

Catch Recordings builds on its already fine reputation with the news that the label is starting a new Various Artists series. Volume 1 is a five-track affair featuring label debutants nwo, Ste Roberts, and Hardacre, plus previous associates Nadsat and Bobby O'Donnell. These are artists who have been Catch friends for many years, and now seems the opportune time to bring them all together under one release.   

 
Nadsat is the Catch label co-founder. A producer who brings intricate sound design and industrial energy to his techno. He opens up with the thrilling 'Only Human', a track with exceptionally inventive drum programming, offbeat hits and a kinetic sense of late night, futuristic energy that never lets up. Add in the elastic bass and soulful vocal and you have a meeting of real emotion and visceral grooves. 

 
nwo is an artist inspired by avant-garde musicians who take influence from jungle, breaks, electro, techno, and jazz and distil it into their own fluid forms, that are raw and bass heavy. 'Evolve' is proof of that with its drilling bass, slithering hi-hats and distant churchy pads tugging you in different directions at once. This is a track that manages to sink you into a widescreen cosmic atmosphere while also powering forward on solid drums.  

 
Ste Roberts runs his own self-titled label as well being part of the team behind Hypercolour, and a long time Rinse FM host. His chunky techno is all about the club, and here he offers '235 Miles Away'. It's a grainy, dubbed out, and weighty cut built on rock solid kicks, with finely sculpted hi-hats peeling off the heady groove.  

 
Hardacre is another fast rising and promising talent. His music is club-ready but also detailed with the sort of moods and atmospheres that make it way more than just functional fodder. His excellent 'Man Machine' is stripped back jungle funk riddled with electro basslines and sci-fi motifs. It is future body music of the highest order and when the acid line comes in, the club is bound to shake. 

 
Bobby O'Donnell is a Leeds legend, and long-time Mint Club resident who debuted here in 2014 with his Lucid Dreams EP. He now runs his own imprint, E-Numbers. His high-speed techno offering 'Grandma's 30th Birthday' is rippled with airy little synth motifs and gurgling acid, while tight pinging kick drums power the whole thing along perfectly.  

 
A vital first volume which suggests this series is going to be one well worth watching.
