From the many musical lives of artist Glenn Donaldson emerges The Reds, Pinks and Purples, a project that sifts out the purest elements of pop music and in the process chronicles the point of view of an assiduous songwriter. His new album "Uncommon Weather" is both an elusive portrait of San Francisco -- during one of its fluctuations as an untenable place for musicians and artists -- and also a self-portrait of a songwriter who has dispatched another treasured collection of timeless sounding DIY-pop songs.

Self-recorded and mostly self-performed, the music on "Uncommon Weather" continuously reckons with the influence of The Television Personalities' Dan Treacy, whose own forays into drum-machines, echo, and reverb in the early 1990s is an important reference point. Paul Weller, Robert Smith, and Sarah Records also come to mind. The album arrives with grateful timing, quick on the heels of the recent EP "You Might Be Happy Someday" and alleviating, for a brief window at least, whatever it is that keeps us coming back to this elemental music. Donaldson imagines his listeners are just like himself: fascinated and addicted to the spiritual power of uncomplicated pop classics.

CATCH THE BREEZE SET TO UNLEASH THEIR GAZY ALT-ROCK ON NEW EP

When Danish act Catch The Breeze hit the stages and speakers it is with a brand new set of songs. The EP Spaces will be released 19 April 2024 leading up to the release of a full album later this year. 

“Creating the new songs has been intense and we are excited to release them now because we know, that it is only when the songs find their audience that they come to life.”

Catch The Breeze started working on the new songs even before the previous album, Into the Wide (2022), was released. Moods, sounds and genres swirled around the creative space of the rehearsal room and very soon manifested as dreamy, shoegazy alt-rock songs of which 4 are now released on Spaces. The music moves freely from the tentative and open to the complex and woven - the interplay of the instruments is both intricate and subtle while the vocals is expressive and soothing. 
Recorded in the Feedback studio in Aarhus, Denmark with Magnus Vad engineering the EP is mixed and mastered by Morten Bue. For synths the band once more teamed up with Kasper Staub (Lowly). 

 

Bio

In early 2014, drummer Andreas Bundgaard, bassist Lars Madsen and singer and guitarist Aage Hedensted formed Catch the Breeze and released a very well-reviewed EP later that year. The EP was followed by concerts in Denmark and Germany. 

 

The experienced musicians share a common past in Yellowish, a prominent indie-rock/dreampop band through the latter part of the 90’s and the 00’s that has now disbanded. Yellowish was on the national hitlist, Det Elektriske Barometer for 10 weeks in a row, played at the Danish national radio festival ‘P3 – Radiohuset Rocker’, Roskilde Festival and at SPOT Festival. The band released two albums, Solid Ground (2004) and So Bright (2006), both nationally and internationally. 

 

Aage Hedensted launched a solo-project, Mixtune for Cully, in 2007 also joined by drummer Andreas Bundgaard. The band have released two albums, We Know Where the Aircrafts Hide (2008) and Season of Silence (2012), and have been played extensively on Danish National Radio, P6 Beat. Bassist Lars Madsen is a member of Phosphor Kid, a new band founded by Randi Løvendahl Gustafsson of Ladylion.
