Gene MacLellan was known mostly for his big hit songs Snowbird and Put Your Hand in the Hand, recorded by the likes of Elvis Presley, Anne Murray, Bing Crosby, Chet Atkins, Doc Watson and so many more. 
He recorded only a few records in the 70's, including the self titled 1970 release, "Gene MacLellan" (aka Street Corner Preacher) and the 1977 release "If It's Alright With You." 
He has so many more songs in his collection that people should hear.
These have been unavailable to the public for such a long time, and EMI has no plans of releasing them even on iTunes, so here they are for you now!

Catherine MacLellan debuts a new original song this Friday, December 5th to mark Canada’s National Day of
Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. This song remembers and honours
Mary Ann MacKinnon, a woman from Kings County PEI who was murdered for the stand she took
against gender-based violence many years ago.
This is a collaboration between Catherine and Patricia MacAulay, a visual artist and a family
member of the woman at the heart of the song.
In the summer of 1951, a neighbour and former boyfriend abducted and raped Mary Ann’s
oldest daughter, Estelle. Distraught and injured, she reported this to her mother, and together
they went to the RCMP barracks to complain. The police investigation led to criminal charges.
The young man publicly blamed Mary Ann for these circumstances. On November 9, 1951, the
night before the trial, he rode over to her eastern PEI farmhouse, aimed a gun through the
kitchen window, and shot her while she kneeled at the family rosary. Already widowed, she left
eleven orphaned children behind. The assailant was found not guilty on a murder charge due to
“insanity” and he never had to face the original charges.

There is nothing harder than being separated from the people you love. Whether by distance or death, the human heart is no stranger to grief.  Grief has been described as “Love with nowhere to go”.  THIS STORM is an antidote to grief because it is the releasing of love, and it expresses a trust in the deep wisdom that this too shall pass. All we need to do is hold on.
Written and recorded by Tara MacLean and Catherine MacLellan while in self-isolation - miles apart - and with friends Natalie Williams-Calhoun (cello) and Mark Westberg (mixing/mastering).
This video is a big, warm hug from Tara, Catherine and all of PEI to the rest of the world.
