Fix This Up

So... It's over a week late, but here it is, my April song 'Little Cave of Blue'. It was called 'The Waiting Room' until 2 seconds ago.

Basically I had zero time to get a song ready to release on the third Friday. Despite being quite upset with myself that I didn't get something out, I figured it was best to postpone it and do it properly. Turns out  breaking my own rules is pretty hard. However, if I had followed them then I may never have written this song.

I wrote and recorded this one in a few hours on Friday with the intention of sleeping on it for one night and releasing it yesterday, but I was suddenly hit by a migraine attack which pretty much wiped out my weekend. Perhaps that was my little cave of blue.

APRIL | LITTLE CAVE OF BLUE

It's the last day of May and I made it by the skin of my teeth… This is a song I wrote back in 2008 or 9 and I have always liked it but never recorded it and never really performed it either. I think in the back of my mind I always felt it was unfinished and that one day I would write more of it as it is probably my shortest song and ends on a bit of a cliff-hanger. But alas, 9 or 10 years later, it remains as it is. 

It came about because I have a tendency to grind my teeth in my sleep, and around the time of writing it was quite severe, as well as having dreams about my teeth falling out. So I had this fantasy of going to see some sort of magic medicine man who would be able to cure me. Perhaps one day I will actually write the rest.

MAY | ANXIETY DREAMS

It's hard to believe it is the penultimate month of my year of releases. 
I definitely fell a little behind this last couple of months but this is me in an effort to catch up.

I wrote and recorded this in 2012. If I remember rightly I think I did most of it in my old living room in Brixton on my little Tascam dictaphone and mixed in Garageband. No one has ever guessed correctly what this one is about, I think I probably wanted it that way when I wrote it.

JUNE | I DON'T BLAME YOU

There are two and a half hours left of July and here I am uploading the final song of my project... 

This month was probably the hardest of all, despite having plenty of time. I wanted to write a new song but I've had the worst writer's block I have ever had- no doubt because of the fact that it is the final piece. 

So today, at the very last minute, I have thrown together a recording of a folk song I wrote about 7 years ago. I recorded using my first ever guitar (from Argos..) because I broke a string on my steel-string with no spares and no time to get any!

It feels very strange to have already got to the end of my 12 months and I look forward to now reflecting on what I have/ haven't done and deciding what to do next.
