The assignment from the Hans Zimmer masterclass was to find an interview of a film maker talking about making his/her film. Then use this as a jumping point to create a score based on how the director talks about his/her intentions behind the film. I chose Karen Gillan's film "The Party's Just Beginning." I have not seen the film, but would imagine this is NOT reminiscent of its music. However, I wrote this little theme based on Gillan referring to her movie, which deals with suicide, having the intention of creating conversation on mental health.  I wrote the piece like a conversation between a person dealing with mental illness/depression and someone who wants to help them heal.  From a good bit of experience, I know that in these conversations there is a lot of hesitation.  A lot of questions. Some confusion.  There is also warmth. And I made sure it wasn't sad, but stung a bit in my gut. The film that Gillan created actually deals more with the aftermath of suicide.  But my piece specifically "speaks" as though someone is beginning to find their way out, which is a painful process for them and those who love them.

From a musicianship standpoint, I could see this in sweeping orchestral moments and as small as this recording.
