'Wintermute' is a tribute to the Artificial Intelligence in William Gibson's masterpiece 'Neuromancer'. This being is half of a super-AI, far more intelligent than humans, and was therefore constrained in what it can do. Software barriers block its ability to make long term plans and maintain a stable identity. Its other half is Neuromancer, an AI capable of compiling personalities to pieces of code. Wintermute's main desire is to merge itself with Neuromancer, despite the shackles imposed on it.

This piece represents the union of both AI. Wintermute is characterised by an ambient introduction, where it shapeshifts between timbres where no clear structure exists. When it's freed and starts merging with Neuromancer, the organised being tries to resist the fusion, fearing losing its own personality constructed from all its years in isolation. Neuromancer is represented by a clear and predictable rhythm, which keeps struggling against the cold ambience of Wintermute. As the track progresses, both AIs learn how to live together, where ambience and rhythm give space to peaceful harmony.

This track was first released as a reward for the crowdfunding for F O C, a self-organised art centre in Barcelona, where the Jokkoo collective and other great art organizations have their headquarters. As this crowdfunding is over, I wanted to share with you all this track, now with a new mastering. The cover is done by Zizi Ramires, a super talented artist who also happens to be my sister. For me, the weight of the rock, sitting on top of a calm field strengthens the previously described relationship, now through a natural and organic representation.
