A fair amount of experimentation with ways to represent the haiku, some more successful and obvious than others, the rippling sequence is more inspired by the image than the poem but I kept it in to move the music forward.

Everything was made in virtual modular using a combination of VCV Rack and Voltage Modular.  Running VM as a plugin allowed me to run both in parallel and make a single take multitrack recording.

Closing Ghosttown’s release year, GTX02 extends the label’s newly established, experiment-focused series. Berlin-based iarna oBers a deeply personal sound-narrative: emotional reflections on Romania, moving between brutalist cityscapes and fog-soaked mountain views.

„sitting in the passenger set, seeing endless transitional spaces, electricity, pylon speeking through the fog, potholes, unfinished brick houses, newly built orthodox churches, abandoned gas stations & factories, grassland plots for sale, arriving in the city, visiting relatives in concrete apartment complexes, eating warm soup, playing video games hanging out in courtyards & parking lots, driving to the mountains, walking through rainy forests, having fever dreams in ancient overnight trains, experiencing the full range of human emotions“

„Periferia“ is a collection of soundscape sequences, processing these themes, emotions & memories. The resulting sonic ambience is embellished with samples and drum patterns inspired by genres like idm, dancehall, trip-hop, breakcore and jungle, albeit merged and re-contextualised.
