I came back the other week with a bag full of records I grabbed while in NYC to play for you all, but that will have to wait. In the past few days, two of the best to ever do it have transitioned after living incredible lives and giving all of us so much music and inspiration - Ahmad Jamal and Ivan "Mamao" Conti. It only felt right to pay tribute to them both on this episode. I tried to play some tunes, especially from Jamal's catalogue, that aren't the big sample-famous ones, but are favorites none the same.

I've done two other mixes dedicated to Jamal in the past, who is my favorite pianist ever, whose music has been so important to me, whose records my dad passed down to me. Admittedly only in more recent years have I become more familiar with Conti's work, and have completely fallen in love with it. 

Salute to these giants!

It's exactly 30 years ago today that the Hughes brothers' hood classic Menace II Society hit US cinemas, and what better way to celebrate than with a retrospective mixtape. In a similar-ish vein to the recent GTA Radio Los Santos mix, here's the entire OST, cut up with remixes/bonus beats/acapellas and a stack of movie dialogue threaded throughout. It's possibly one of my favourite mixes I've ever done. Sending this one out to fellow MIIS binge-watcher and heavyweight champion dialogue-reciter Ell @user-994456338, Olly @wiseguisedjs, plus a big shout to Richard for taping most of the soundtrack off for me back in the day - this is where my enduring love for gangsta rap really began.

DK returns to the show with 'Cymatic Frequencies II' and as before it's another AV mix. This is Part 1 of 'Best of 2011', taking personal favourites from his mixes this year and adding suitable and sometimes breathtaking visuals to compliment the audio. This Video Mixtape includes a few of the artists Original video's but in most cases visuals have been sourced from animation, CGI, Short Films, archive footage and edited to each track in the mix. Some of the 2011 musical highlights include Africa Hitech, Machinedrum, Peverelist, Skream, Pearson Sound, Thundercat, Michael Kiwanuka and the Stepkids, plus there's a few dips into the archive with Wayne Smith, Tribe of Issachar, Herbie Hancock, Burial and Vangelis.
